First, let’s look at Fujianese . The one I met most in Beijing is Fujianese. I have two landlords, to be precise, second landlords, who are from Fujian. The one who manages the house for them is also Fujianese, and I also have two colleagues from Fujian.
My feeling is that the landlord and his administrator have a heavy Mandarin accent, so it can only be said and not affected communication. Among the two colleagues, one of them is quite good Mandarin and cannot hear the Southern accent, but the other colleague is not as good as my landlord. The northerners in our company often cannot understand his Mandarin.
Next, let’s look at from Guangxi. The second most I met in Beijing is our fellow villagers from Guangxi. Among the fellow villagers in Beijing, Guilin and Liuzhou from are very good, especially those from Guilin. Others, including me, have obvious accents in the south, but northerners can understand it.
In general, Guangxi people who work in the north cannot speak very standard in Mandarin, but they are definitely not at the bottom of the country.
Finally, I came across Guangdong people . I only met two Guangdong people in Beijing, one is my colleague, and the other is a girl who asked me to take photos in Summer Palace . My colleague from Guangdong is from Chaoshan and is a salesman in the company. Naturally, Mandarin is not bad, but the southern voice is also obvious. The girl who asked me to take photos is quite good in Mandarin. If I don’t ask her, I don’t know that she is from Guangdong.
