Primetals Technology recently received a new order from Aosteel United Steel Company, and will build a knowledge-based quality control system "full process quality control" (TPQC) for its Donavitz Steel Plant, Austria. The project is scheduled to be implemented in the second quarter of 2023.

This new solution can enable steel mills to achieve automatic and comprehensive long-term data analysis. After each production step, the quality of the product and process is automatically evaluated to ensure that the product meets customer requirements. Equipment operators and process engineers will gain the capability to fully process evaluation. The results given by the system can then be used as the basis for further optimization measures. In this way, both the production process and the quality of the final product will be improved.

Automatic analysis covers the entire steel mill

Aoganglian Steel has used the TPQC system on its No. 4 continuous casting machine at its Donavitz plant for more than a year and a half. Marco Vauti, project manager of factory expansion, shared his experience: the ability of the

TPQC system to analyze long-term collected data sets has helped us continuously optimize our production processes and product quality.

Relying on this new order, product quality will be automatically evaluated along the entire production chain, including in ladle furnaces, converters, secondary metallurgy equipment and vacuum degassing equipment. This system expansion will be implemented together with the expansion of the existing system of the No. 4 continuous casting machine. In addition, the TPQC system is currently being implemented by the No. 3 continuous casting machine.
