As the sharp knife and sharp edge of the South Korean Army’s battle sequence, the South Korean Army’s Special Operations Command has always displayed a very hazy appearance. Except for the appearance of over-modified rouge gouache in some popular Korean dramas, few people know what the real South Korean special forces look like.
Like other troops of the South Korean Army, the South Korean Army Special Forces are also the "Green Berets" special forces subordinated to the US Army. The South Korean Army’s Special Operations Commander has eight combat units. They are the First Special Operations Brigade "Flying Eagle", the Third Special Operations Brigade "Flying Tiger", the Fifth Special Operations Brigade, and the Seventh Special Operations Brigade "Pegasus". The 9th Special Operations Brigade "Ghost", the 11th Special Operations Brigade "Golden Bats", the 13th Special Operations Brigade "Black Panthers", and the 707th Special Mission Operations Group "White Tigers".
The selection and training of South Korean special forces are more stringent than general conscripts, and their service period usually starts from 4 years. All special forces conscripts must undergo hard work before entering the army to eliminate recruits whose physical functions do not meet the requirements.
All South Korean special forces should have the ability to survive for a week without or with limited supplies, and they should also have strong anti-torture ability. The South Korean special forces also carry out special snow training courses in winter. Participants must train in the snow without wearing a jacket, or even directly submerge in ice water below 0°.
Compared with the average Korean army, the Korean special forces are also more sophisticated. Mainly equipped with two Korean-made assault rifles, K1A and K2C, K-14 sniper rifle, MP-5 submachine gun and K-7 silenced submachine gun, etc.
In addition to firearms, other personal equipment of South Korean special forces are also in line with the mainstream level of Europe and America.
