The above photo was taken by an American reporter. The smiling man in the photo is named Zhu Datong. He is about to be taken to the execution ground for execution on charges of being a traitor.
However, no one knew that this traitor was actually an underground party who was ordered to lurk in the enemy camp.
Anyone who has watched the spy war drama " Kite " knows that military commander Sixth Brother Zheng Yaoxian is a pawn of our party into the enemy's interior. Zheng Yaoxian "lurked" in the enemy camp, and successfully avoided the suspicion of Dai Li and Mao Renfeng time and time again. Under special circumstances, he did not hesitate to crush his comrade and lover Cheng Zhener to ashes, and watched his superior Lu Hanqing commit suicide.
"Kite" is just a TV series, and Zheng Yaoxian is also a fictional character. However, in the field of real espionage, there is indeed a character similar to Zheng Yaoxian. His name is Zhu Datong. Unfortunately, this "traitor" who was hated by his own people was shot by the Kuomintang authorities on May 11, 1949 for being a traitor. He left a photo of him smiling on the execution ground. Chen Yi After learning about this, he burst into tears with distress: He is a comrade of our party!
What's going on?
In 1907, Zhu Datong was born in Zhuzhuang Village, Lilou Township, Wangzhai County, Anhui Province. His family had several acres of land. In addition to farming, his father occasionally went out to do crafts. When he was seven years old, Zhu Datong went to a private school, and later transferred to National Primary School. He studied very hard, and a few years later he was admitted to middle school with excellent results. Unfortunately, at the age of 17, due to changes in his family, he was forced to interrupt his studies. After being introduced by a relative, he became a teacher in an elementary school.
When he was a teacher, he did not forget to study. He loved reading books and also liked to read books with progressive ideas. At that time, influenced by the May 4th Movement and the domestic revolutionary trend, his thoughts were also changing. In 1928, at the age of 21, he secretly joined the Party and actively worked to train other Party members. Due to his outstanding work ability, he was recognized by his superiors. In 1931, he was appointed as the Xuzhou Special Committee Inspector and Xiao County Party Committee Secretary.
After that, he also planned an uprising, but unfortunately due to other reasons, the uprising ultimately failed.
1934 is a very critical year. In the TV series "Kite", the red agent Zheng Yaoxian was ordered to break into the enemy camp this year. This year, the Central Special Branch of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued a secret order to let some underground party members secretly infiltrate into enemy camps in various ways.
This year, Zhu Datong received an order from his superiors to rebel against the revolution. He was confused at the time. He was an unswerving revolutionary. It was more difficult for him to betray the revolution than to kill him. The superior talked to him and said that it was not a real betrayal, but that he took the opportunity to "whitewash" himself and successfully entered the enemy camp to work hard for the future revolution.
Zhu Datong understood and asked him to sneak into the enemy camp. As a result, he successfully "rebelled" and defected to a relative in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. By betraying the organization and comrades, he gained the trust of the Central Committee. Sometimes, he led Zhongtong agents to carry out large-scale arrests, which was much more active than Zheng Yaoxian in "Kite".
The difference is that Zhu Datong did not receive a kill order from insiders, because the senior officials knew that he was acting under orders, and those who were "betrayed" by him were all weak in revolutionary will and willing to surrender to the enemy.
In 1936, Zhu Datong, who had made great contributions to the Central Unification Committee, served as the inspector of the Xuzhou Secret Service Office of the Central Unification Committee. One day, Zhu Datong passed by a Chinese medicine shop in Zaozhuang and found a man he knew. This man was Guo Zihua, who used to be the secretary of the Provisional Special Working Committee of the Sulu Border Region. Many traitors had appeared in the Sulu Border Region, and many comrades were arrested. Zhu Datong suspected that Guo Zihua had rebelled, so he personally captured Guo Zihua. In fact, Guo Zihua did not rebel. He is now the secretary of the Henan-Anhui Special Committee and is planning to organize revolutionary forces on railways and coal mines.
After interrogating Guo Zihua, Zhu Datong also knew that he had arrested the wrong person. In the name of personally escorting Guo Zihua to Xuzhou , he took Guo Zihua halfway and released him.Soon, Guo Zihua rushed to Yan'an to report on the work of the Sulu Border Region, and then took office as Secretary of the Special Committee of the Sulu Border Region and maintained contact with Zhu Datong.
After the Japanese army occupied Zaozhuang, Guo Zihua organized many anti-Japanese activities and arranged for Hong Zhenhai, Liu Jinshan and others to organize a team, which was the well-known railway guerrillas .
Guo Zihua's organizational activities were coordinated by Zhu Datong, who used his identity to send guns and ammunition to the anti-Japanese armed forces many times.
In 1940, Zhu Datong became the county magistrate of Xiao County under the Kuomintang government. While in office, he often instigated his subordinates to create friction with the anti-Japanese troops. However, he was beaten to pieces by the anti-Japanese troops every time. In one case, he lost more than 200 guns.
What's worse, he openly slandered the people's power and the anti-Japanese armed forces in public. Not only that, he also personally led his troops to sneak attack on the offices of the New Fourth Army, but the result was still a failure.
Many comrades who have worked with him think that he is a complete traitor, but they do not know that he used this failed method to send guns to our anti-Japanese armed forces. Secretly, he was under the direct command of Wang Zhonglian, the commander-in-chief of the Lusu Border Region.
In early 1941, Zhu Datong received an order from Wang Zhonglian. In view of the changes in the anti-Japanese situation, he must find a way to leave the Central Unification, turn to the Japanese, and gain the trust of the Japanese. In June, Zhu Datong, the county magistrate of the Kuomintang, was captured while fighting the Japanese army. In order to survive, he quickly published a newspaper statement stating that he was willing to become a lackey of the Japanese army. From then on, he, a Central Unification agent, became a traitor. Later, Zhu Datong was appointed by the Japanese army as the county magistrate of Xiao County and the captain of the Qingxiang Brigade of the Wang Puppet Regime. He became a complete traitor and traitor in the eyes of the people.

When he was poked in the back by fellow villagers, he smiled and said nothing. No one knew how bitter he was behind his smile. He knew his responsibilities. When he joined the revolution, he understood that from now on he would be a member of the organization. He would do whatever the organization asked him to do, no matter how wronged and sad he was.
As a Chinese, he also wants to take up arms and fight the Japanese, but as an underground party, he cannot do that. Just like the line Zheng Yaoxian tried in "Kite": The party did not ask him to sacrifice, he must live.
In everyone's eyes, Zhu Datong is a heinous traitor. But secretly, the Lusu Border Area received a lot of Japanese intelligence from her, as well as a large amount of cloth and bullets.
At the end of 1944, seeing that the Japanese army was gone, Zhu Datong resigned from his post and became the principal of a middle school. However, secretly, he led the organized seventh column to fight the Japanese army more than 20 times, killing and wounding hundreds of Japanese and puppet soldiers. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he, as a Central Unification agent, opened coal mines in Zhenjiang and Nanjing to raise funds for the organization and secretly recruit party members. In February 1949, he joined the Sun Wenist Revolutionary League and served as a member of the Jiangsu Provincial Branch League. Shi Yong, the head of the "Sunwentist Revolutionary Alliance" and one of the former leaders of the Nanjing Underground Party, gave Zhu Datong instructions to wait for an opportunity to instigate a local armed uprising of the Kuomintang in Zhenjiang and welcome the People's Liberation Army to cross the river. Previously, the Sun Meng organization had successfully planned an uprising by Wang Yanqing, commander of the 97th Division of the National Army, and others.
Zhu Datong was arrested due to leaks of information during his secret contact with a national army in Zhenjiang, and was then taken to Shanghai. The Kuomintang authorities initially suspected that he was an underground party, but after repeated interrogations, even they themselves did not believe it. However, they felt that Zhu Datong's identity was extraordinary and they could never be retained. Considering that Zhu Datong had once defected to the Japanese as a traitor, they executed him for "traitor crime."
html On May 11, Zhu Datong was escorted to the execution ground with a death card stuck on his back. During the parade, facing the people around him scolding the traitor, he grinned brightly, as if he was not being shot, but attending a feast. It was his fearlessness and magnanimity that caught the attention of an American reporter named Harrison Forman. Harrison Forman pressed the shutter with the camera in his hand and recorded this extremely precious "Smile on the Execution Ground."
When the news of Zhu Datong's death came out, Shi Yongwen heard it and cried bitterly: He was a good comrade!

In 1950, Zhu Datong was posthumously recognized as a martyr, but some people were dissatisfied with this and believed that he had betrayed his comrades and rebelled against the revolution.
After years of arguments and the testimony of many parties, in 1981, Zhu Datong was once again recognized as a martyr by the country.
He became a strange person who was recognized as a martyr twice. Many of his deeds have not been declassified.
