Preface
October 1971, it was not far from the time when US President Nixon visited China. In order to develop Sino-US relations, President Nixon once again sent national security adviser Dr. Kissinger as a special envoy to visit China secretly. However, Kissinger's visit not only shoulders the important task of developing bilateral relations, but also an important task is to "gain people". Shortly after
arrived in China, Kissinger proposed to Premier Zhou to release the American pilots shot down by the Chinese Navy aviation force. In order to develop Sino-US relations, Premier Zhou readily agreed to Kissinger's request and asked the then deputy commander of the navy, Wu Ruilin, to receive Kissinger.

Kissinger visited China
After the two sides met, before they could wait for others to introduce, Kissinger asked with a smile: "You are Wu Crooked, right? We Americans are not unfamiliar with you, and even more familiar with your nickname." After hearing this, General Wu Ruilin responded with a smile: "Yes, they all call me Wu Crooked."
The reason why Kissinger was able to know General Wu Ruilin was due to the general's outstanding performance in the battlefield of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea. At that time, the Forty-two Army led by the general defeated the American Marine Division, which made the arrogant Americans remember him completely. As the two talked, they mentioned the past of the Korean War.
Resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea became famous in the battle. "Wu Crooked" was praised by Chairman Mao in
950. At this time, less than a year before the founding of New China, the "United Nations Army" led by the United States invaded North Korea and sent planes to bomb China's northeastern region , resulting in the safety of the Chinese people's lives not guaranteed. The Party Central Committee and Chairman Mao decided to send the Chinese People's Volunteer Army to North Korea to fight based on the overall situation.
Chinese People's Volunteer Army rushed to North Korea
On October 19, the Chinese People's Volunteer Army crossed Yalu River and came to North Korea to fight. The 42nd Army , where Wu Ruilin is located, followed the 13th Corps and entered North Korea secretly three days in advance.
The reason why the 42nd Army led by Wu Ruilin entered North Korea early was also due to special tasks. Because the United Nations army advanced too fast, in order not to allow the enemy troops from the east and west to join forces to encircle our army, Peng Dehuai formulated a plan to "attack the west and defend the east" in advance, and the task of defense on the east line fell on Wu Ruilin.
For this reason, the 13th Corps of the Volunteer Army entered North Korea safely under the cover of the river. At this time, the "United Nations Army" did not know that the Chinese army had arrived in North Korea.
In order to fight this battle well, Wu Ruilin took scout , led the planes and cannons from the sky, avoided the plainclothes agents underground, and spent eight days traveling all the places that could be surveyed, and successfully delivered the map to Commander Peng Dehuai. Soon, facing the upcoming battle, Wu Ruilin said at the combat meeting: "Apart from the enemy's wandering souls and prisoners, no enemy is allowed to cross."

42 Army soldiers
Then, General Wu Ruilin led the 42nd Army to the only channel for the convergence of the east and west lines of the "United Nations Army" - to Zhanling and Huangcaoling. This place is very important because it is the only channel to Jiangjie and Huishan . As long as these two important roads are guarded, the plan for the "United Nations Army" to reunite will be completely destroyed by our army. Whether
can defend these two places has become the key to our army's first battle after entering North Korea, and the more important one is Huangcaoling. To this end, General Wu Ruilin ordered the soldiers to march overnight and finally seized Huangcaoling before the enemy arrived.
For Americans, the South Korean army will always be the ones who lead the front line. At 10 a.m. on October 25, the South Korean army rushed towards Huangcaoling. Our army immediately launched a fierce attack on the enemy. The South Korean army suffered heavy losses. They were quite dissatisfied and launched several attacks in succession, but they were all successfully repelled by our army.
Looking at the miserable situation of the South Korean army's retreat, Major General Almond 4, the commander of the 10th Army of the enemy, decided to let the 1st Marine Division, which is the first combat power in the United States, replace the South Korean army and continue to attack Huangcaoling.

The US Army on the battlefield of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea
The First Marine Division is the earliest Marine Corps in the United States. It has participated in the famous Guadalcanal Island Battle , the Cape Gloucester Battle, and the Okinawa Battle. It has made countless military achievements and has very strong combat effectiveness. After receiving the order, they launched an attack on the positions occupied by the Volunteers with extremely fierce artillery fire.
Facing the disadvantages in weapons and equipment, Wu Ruilin was not discouraged. He asked the engineers to stuff hundreds of kilograms of strong explosives into the cracks on the mountains on both sides of the highway. When the US military arrived, they used a telephone to detonate, blowing up a large number of US tanks and cars.
At the same time, Wu Ruilin attacked the enemy at night many times, and took advantage of their lack of defense to blow up a large number of weapons and equipment, which made the enemy uneasy.
is like this, and the Huangcaoling blocking battle lasted for 13 days. During these 13 days, the 42nd Army successfully completed the blocking mission, annihilated about 3,000 enemy troops, and bombed about 20 tanks and artillery . However, the 42nd Army also paid the price of more than 800 casualties.

The soldiers on the front line in the battle of Huangcaoling
On November 5, the counterattack of the troops on the Western Front ended, and Wu Ruilin handed over the Huangcaoling position to the Ninth Corps led by Song Shilun , and then hurried to the Western Front. After the battle of
, Wu Ruilin was commended by Commander Peng Dehuai, and his nickname spread in the "United Nations Army" and attracted the attention of Americans.
Later, Wu Ruilin's strange tactics were also praised in person by Chairman Mao. Chairman Mao said humorously many times: "When we meet our cripple, the United Nations army will truly become cripple."
decades of military career, unfortunately lost to lifelong disability
The nickname for "Wu Crookedzi" represents an honor. And the reason why he has such a nickname is due to his heroic performance in the revolutionary war years.
Wu Ruilin, like most founding soldiers, was born in a poor family. His father died of illness shortly after he was born, leaving only his mother and grandmother who had been bedridden for many years to take care of a few young children.

Children from poor families
Children from poor families were early in life, and Wu Ruilin started to help his mother take care of his young sister when he was eight years old. In order to survive, he had to go up the mountain to chop wood every day. Despite this, the family still lived a life of not having the last meal.
During that time, Wu Ruilin lived a very difficult life. Fortunately, while running around for life, he came into contact with some underground workers of the Communist Party. He heard them tell many revolutionary principles, and his mind had the idea of changing his destiny through revolution.
928, under the recommendation of others, Wu Ruilin successfully joined Chinese Communist Youth League . Although Wu Ruilin was young, he was smart and flexible. The organization asked him to serve as an underground traffic officer, responsible for delivering important letters between various intelligence stations. From then on, Wu Ruilin embarked on the road of revolution. During this period, Wu Ruilin often walked around Nanchong , Tongjiang and Bazhong . The conditions at that time were extremely difficult, and there were also , the Kuomintang sentry along the way for inspection. Wu Ruilin traveled to intelligence stations in various regions on the grounds of escaping famine. In less than a year, he and his comrades developed 100 party members and 400 league members, making important contributions to strengthening the revolutionary team and spreading the revolutionary spark.

932, Red Fourth Front Army was about to enter Sichuan to develop, and Wu Ruilin took on the role of welcoming Red Army this time. When he arrived, the Red Army had already arrived at Yanxichang to develop. When the comrade in charge heard Wu Ruilin speak fluently, he tied him up as a spy. Later, facing the investigation by the political department, Wu Ruilin reported in detail how they carried out organizational tasks in the Bazhong region and how they met the Red Army in accordance with the requirements of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee.Seeing that Wu Ruilin was so familiar with the local situation, the organization introduced him to Xu Xiangqian, the commander-in-chief of the Red Fourth Front Army.
Then, the soldiers drew maps of the surroundings based on Wu Ruilin's oral description, which provided the basis for the implementation of strategies such as the subsequent attack on Bazhongcheng. Wu Ruilin was also valued by the organization and transferred to young cadres to work in youth work . He actively promoted locally, and in a short period of time, the Young Communist International Pioneer Group recruited a large number of members, further strengthening the team.
934, due to the command mistakes of Bo Gu, Li De and others, the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army was forced to undergo a strategic transfer and began the world-famous 25,000-mile Long March . After the start of the Long March , there were various difficulties and dangers in front, and the Kuomintang army was encircled and intercepted, and the Red Army was facing unprecedented difficulties.

During a battle, Wu Ruilin's leg was hit by the enemy's cold gun. The medical conditions were backward at that time, the doctor had to find some opium to relieve his pain, then dig out bullets with a burned razor head, scraped off the lead poison on the surface of the wound, and finally sprinkled salt water to disinfect the wound. There was no anesthesia measure at that time, and Wu Ruilin survived without saying a word. After that, Wu Ruilin dragged his injured leg, crossed the snow-capped mountains twice and the grassland three times before he walked to northern Shaanxi.
After the outbreak of the full-scale anti-Japanese war, Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army was adapted into the Eighth Route Army of the National Revolutionary Army and began to rush to the front line of the anti-Japanese war. Soon, Wu Ruilin served as the political commissar of the Second Detachment of the Shandong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrillas in the Eighth Route Army, and led his troops to southeastern Shandong. After coming to Shandong, he actively carried out united front work on the Kuomintang army, and at the same time fully promoted the people to expand the anti-Japanese team, which quickly opened up the anti-Japanese situation in southeast Shandong. Under his leadership, the soldiers took Boli, shelled Gongkou, and attacked Zhucheng at night, which severely hit the arrogance of the Japanese invaders.
His performance in southwestern Shandong has been recognized by the organization, but the enemy hates him to the core. In September 1939, he led his troops to the Shimiaozi area in Lainan to defend the autumn harvest, but was betrayed by the traitors. Wu Ruilin's troops were attacked by Japanese and puppet troops.

Facing the enemy's step by step, Wu Ruilin had to retreat to the cellar downstairs to command the battle. The soldiers around him began to occupy a favorable position to snipe the enemy. Relying on the advantage of large populations, the enemy launched round after round of attacks on the soldiers. During the battle of
, Wu Ruilin relied on the cellar and held two box guns to shoot at the enemy, killing more than 20 enemies in a row. Under his command, the troops killed more than 20 enemies. The enemy suffered heavy losses, but they were unwilling to give up and actually released poison gas. Wu Ruilin fainted on the ground. Under the enemy's machine gun strafing, Wu Ruilin was seriously injured in his legs and abdomen.
Fortunately, the reinforcements that arrived in time killed the Japanese army. After the enemy was beaten away, Wu Ruilin was carried off by the guards in time and sent to the rear for treatment.
After a period of treatment, Wu Ruilin's wound healed. However, the shrapnel that was hit on his leg could not be taken out, so he could only walk on a crutch. Although he threw away the crutches later, he was disabled for life and limped when walking.
After a long time, the soldiers around him got used to it, and even gave him the nickname "Wu Crooked". Despite this, Wu Ruilin actively commanded the battle on the front line, and the soldiers proudly said, "We are Wu Crooked's soldiers."

Wu Ruilin
The organization wanted to transfer him to the rear many times, but Wu Ruilin firmly disagreed and he charged forward in every battle. With this desperate spirit, he quickly gained a reputation on the battlefield.
In 1945, Japan announced its unconditional surrender, and the Chinese military and civilians achieved a great victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan. Chiang Kai-shek However, despite the opposition of the people of the whole country, he constantly mobilized heavy troops to launch an attack on the liberated areas.
In the War of Liberation, Wu Ruilin was still as usual, rushing in front with his limp legs.He participated in summer offensive operations, Liaoshen, Pingjin, southwest and other battles, and made important contributions to the founding of New China.
After the founding of New China, he participated in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. He first successfully resisted the "United Nations Army" on the Eastern Front in the Battle of Huangcaoling and destroyed the US military's plans. Later, he made many extraordinary achievements in many battles, which dealt a heavy blow to the arrogant US military.

General Wu Ruilin
In 1955, in order to commend comrades who made contributions in the revolutionary war years, the Party Central Committee decided to award these revolutionary heroes the title. At the rank awarding ceremony, Wu Ruilin was awarded the rank of lieutenant general, which is also the recognition of his decades of revolutionary career by the Party and the country.
encountered great ups and downs, but the old general did not change his original intentions
html Starting from the 250s, General Wu Ruilin came to work in the navy. In his new position, he has been studying hard, constantly improving his command art, and successfully completed the major transformation from the army to the navy general.

During his work, he often took the ship to sea exercises and training, starting from Fujian, Guangdong and other places in the east, to Beibu Gulf of Guangxi in the west, and to Xisha Islands and Nansha Islands in the south, surveyed all the sea areas and harbors in the south of the motherland, and successfully completed the tasks assigned to him by the organization.
In the 1960s, due to the three consecutive years of natural disasters in China, coupled with the unilateral tearing of the agreement by the Soviet Union, my country had serious difficulties in the process of economic development. The Kuomintang took this opportunity to continue to harass us at sea, and at the same time collected military, political, economic and other related information from the mainland.
At 5 pm on August 5, 1965, the South China Sea Fleet received the latest news that the Kuomintang Navy's large submarine "Jianmen" and the small submarine "Zhangjiang" carried a group of armed spies in an attempt to sneak attack the Sujianjiao and Guleitou areas in southern Fujian.

A scene in the Battle of 86
After Wu Ruilin received the message, he immediately directed the Shantou Water Police District under the South China Sea Fleet to fight. The Jianmen and Zhangjiang were all sunk in one fell swoop, killing about 170 Kuomintang troops in total. This was also the first maritime annihilation war since the founding of the People's Navy, and Wu Ruilin was commended by the Ministry of National Defense.
In October 1968, Wu Ruilin served as executive deputy commander of the Navy of the Military Commission and deputy secretary of the Party Committee, in charge of combat command and engineering construction. But no matter what position he is in, the general is working diligently and has made outstanding contributions to the development of military construction.
In 1972, Wu Ruilin was affected to a certain extent because he was very close to the former Navy Political Commissar Li Zuopeng and left his job. From then on, General Wu Ruilin gradually faded out of the political stage.
In his later years, General Wu Ruilin actively participated in the research on the war history of the Red Fourth Front Army, leaving a lot of valuable information for future generations.

After his later years, General Wu Ruilin
In April 1995, the old general left the land of China where he fought for his whole life with 13 battle injuries on his body.
Now the old general has been away for more than 20 years, but his spirit has been passed down forever. The revolutionaries led by the veteran generals are like a ray of light, illuminating the path of the Chinese nation and constantly inspiring us to work hard to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as soon as possible.
