In January 1957, the 74th Division was ordered to transfer to the 66th Army. In 1961, the 403rd Tank Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment of the former 198th Division was transferred to the 74th Infantry Division. In September 1968, the regiment was reorganized into the 4th Independent Tank Regiment of the Beijing Military Region.
In October 1969, the 74th Division returned to the 24th Army. In December, the 74th Division continued to use the original 70th Division number, and each regiment was renamed the 208th, 209th, 210th Regiments and the Artillery Regiment .
