September 13, during the armed conflict between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan borders, Kyrgyzstan border troops opened fire at the Liyakan and Bogdali border posts of the Tajikistan border troops, destroying a large amount of heavy equipment from Tajikistan. On the morning of September 16, multiple places on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were shot at the same time. According to the National Security Council Border Defense Bureau, at 06:00 in the morning, the Tajikan side began shelling the border team and the Kyrgyzstan positions. Then, Ta fired mortars at border posts and border villages in the Lelek and Batken areas. 31 people have been injured. The battle lasted for the fourth day.
Currently, residents of seven border villages in the Batken and Lelek areas of Kyrgyzstan have evacuated their homes due to armed conflict. The border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has become a conflict zone between local residents and the two countries' border defense forces. The reason is that it is impossible to determine how the interstate border area operates and divides, with 450 kilometers of boundaries not yet delineated, and 70 areas considered controversial.
It is worth noting that the leaders of the two countries, Sadr Japarov and Emmali Rahmon were attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit at the time. On the afternoon of September 16, the two sides held face-to-face talks and agreed to a ceasefire. But the fire exchange continued until September 17.
