Recently, the US Consulate issued a notice to cancel all non-immigrant visa appointments in December!
Starting from the 12th of this month, the U.S. consulates in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenyang have successively canceled all regular and non-emergency visa appointments. At present, only non-immigrant visa interviews within 12 months have been cancelled. All non-immigrant visa interviews that have been scheduled need to be rescheduled.
The U.S. Embassy in Beijing and U.S. consulates throughout the People's Republic of China remain open to the public.
Now, the U.S. Embassy in China has further informed that starting from Monday, December 19, all immigration visa interviews will be suspended, except in emergencies.
The detailed notice is as follows:
Applicants affected by the cancellation plan of this round of visa appointment interviews should have received email notifications one after another. Now it seems that the multi-category visa interview time in January next year is open for appointments. Applicants who have been canceled can quickly arrange a new appointment.
The visa fee is valid for 12 months from the date of payment. You must reschedule a new appointment within the validity period to avoid paying the visa fee again.
The only possible way to apply for a visa now is to try the "Expedited appointment" service of the embassy. If the application is considered to have some unforeseen travel needs, the embassy or consulate will decide whether to agree to an expedited interview based on the circumstances.
Generally common expedited interview situations include:
◆ Urgent medical needs, accompanied by family members or employers, you can also apply;
◆ Urgent business trip, failure to take this trip will cause significant economic losses to the company;
◆ Immediate family members died in the United States and went to the United States to attend the funeral or transport their remains back to China;
◆ Students or exchange visiting scholars are about to start school within 60 days, etc.
Travel purposes that are not eligible for expedited application include:
Participating in weddings, graduation ceremonies, taking care of pregnant relatives, attending conferences, traveling, etc.

After several years of epidemic experience, you don’t have to worry too much. The suspension of visa services by the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in China is only temporary. Considering that many embassy and consulate staff in the United States return home for vacation during the Christmas season, there is already a shortage of manpower. Coupled with the actual situation of the epidemic, when the epidemic situation eases early next year and the vacation personnel return to work, all types of visa work will gradually return to normal!
