2022 EE Summary
After the outbreak of the epidemic, Canada’s federal immigration department suspended invitations to applicants for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW), and then suspended the requirements for applicants for the Experience Class Program (ECE) in September 2021.
Until July 2022, Canada’s federal immigration department announced that it will officially resume Canada’s federal Express Entry lottery, including the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Federal Skilled Worker (FSW). This is also the first time Canada has invited overseas skilled immigrants since 2020.
html On July 6, the Canadian federal immigration department restarted the latest round of EE score drawing and invited 1,500 candidates with a CRS score of at least 557 from the EE candidate pool. This draw is also regarded as the highest score since May 22, 2015.Generally every two weeks, the Canadian federal immigration department will issue ITAs to Express Entry candidates who meet the CRS deadline. Candidates in the pool receive an ITA based on their CRS score.
According to this year’s draws, all Express Entry draws select candidates from the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). And with the invitations drawn again and again, the Canadian Federal Immigration Department continues to increase the number of candidates. For example, the latest draw finally reached 4,750 candidates, and the CRS score dropped below 500 points, to 491.
It is not difficult to see that Canada is really short of people, especially high-tech talents. In particular, the Canadian economy has been affected by the epidemic, and labor shortages across the country are serious. At present, Canada has determined that new immigrants are the main means to solve economic needs, especially high-tech talents. This may be the reason for the push for Express Entry and the reason why CRS scores will gradually decrease in 2022.
So what is the trend of CRS in 2023?
2023 EE prediction
The EE lottery that was supposed to be held on December 7 did not happen. Originally, according to the rule of drawing once every two weeks, a new round of lottery should be held on December 7, but the Canadian Federal Immigration Department has never updated it. According to reasonable speculation, the latest draw will pull the EE score line below 490 points. There are currently 10,517 people in the 481-490 score range. Most of them have been waiting for this score reduction for a long time, but unexpectedly something unexpected happened and the EE draw did not happen.
While we are not entirely sure of the upcoming CRS draw date, there is an important policy change coming in 2023 that will have a significant impact on the effectiveness of CRS on immigration.
Immigration Canada plans to use a new method to hold Express Entry (EE) draws starting in 2023, inviting candidates based on work rather than total CRS score, and the Immigration Minister has the right to prioritize candidates with in-demand skills.
According to Canada’s immigration level plan, it is hoped to absorb 203,220 new immigrants under the EE category project from 2023 to 2025.
EE The changes were expected as Bill C-19 received royal assent in June and passed both houses of Parliament. Under the bill, the Immigration Minister has the power to prioritize candidates with in-demand skills. Sean Fraser said in an interview at the time that changes to Express Entry would help Canada select successful immigrants. Although EE has given Canada a competitive advantage, there is still room for improvement.

Who will be invited in the future?
So far, Canada’s federal immigration department has not confirmed which candidates will receive an invitation to apply in the targeted lottery. Sean Fraser said he would consult with provinces, business councils and other stakeholders to best assess which candidates would be targeted.
This means that EE candidates can now be invited based on the most pressing economic needs and urgent labor shortages, such as is often seen in the technology and healthcare industries.
Healthcare is considered one of the most pressing career categories. The job vacancy rate in the industry was 6% in October. The Canadian federal government has also been taking steps to fill jobs in the industry, such as removing some barriers for internationally trained doctors already in Canada and the recently announced Foreign Credentials Recognition Program. Future Express Entry programs may focus on candidates with healthcare professional backgrounds, in the hope of filling open positions more quickly.
