Canberra (ACT) announced near the end of the last financial year that it will expand the scope of the occupation list for state-sponsored skilled immigrants.

As usual, ACT will adjust the occupation list for state sponsored skilled immigrants in each new fiscal year based on changes in ACT’s economic needs. On July 11, ACT updated its occupation list for the 2022-2023 fiscal year. The complete list of

is now available on the official website. The new occupation list will apply to applicants applying for state sponsored skilled immigrants 491 and 190 state sponsored nominations.

If the applicant is a doctoral graduate from an ACT university, he or she will not be restricted by this list. The nominated occupation of ACT PhD graduates can be on any occupation list of the Australian Immigration Service.

The newly announced occupation list includes many popular occupations for immigrants, including accounting, engineers, teachers, technicians, social workers, etc. Of course, there will be no shortage of nursing positions.

It should be noted that some of the occupations on the list can only apply for 491 state sponsorship nomination, such as public relations managers, market research analysis specialists, translators and other positions.

ACT state sponsored skilled immigrants are divided into three categories: state sponsored skilled immigrants 190, remote area state sponsored skilled immigrants 491 and doctoral fast track.

The fast-track PhD program is limited to doctoral students who have graduated from ACT. These applicants can enjoy the state government’s fast-track review and waived application fees. Applicants usually receive the approval results of their state sponsorship nominations within one week.

In addition to the fast track for doctoral students, ACT also accepts applications from overseas applicants. 491 State sponsored nomination application requirements are as follows:

- Applicants need to undergo Matrix scoring;

- Under the age of 45;

- The nominated occupation is on the ACT's occupation list and has passed the corresponding occupational skills assessment;

- At least three years Relevant full-time work experience;

- Language scores of IELTS four 7 or four 8 points, or equivalent language test scores;

- Applicants need to research the labor market in ACT and explain their employability in ACT .

ACT190 State Sponsored Nomination Application Requirements:

-age under 45 years old;

-the occupation is on the ACT occupation list, and the applicant is working full-time;

-there is a job offer, and the position must be available in the ACT for at least two years;

-The English requirement is to meet four IELTS scores of 7 or four scores of 8, or equivalent language test scores.

Unlike other states, ACT has its own scoring system-Matrix. If there are multiple applicants with the same score for the same nominated position, invitations will be issued based on the time of application submission.
