[Global Network Comprehensive Report] On November 30, the Australian House of Representatives passed a motion to condemn former Prime Minister Morrison, condemning the latter's secretly serving as multiple ministers during the epidemic. According to The Australian, Morrison had been playing with his phone throughout the voting process and only looked up briefly.
In mid-August this year, Australian media revealed that during his tenure as prime minister, Morrison appointed himself to serve as Minister of Health, Finance, Resources, Interior and Treasury, and did not notify the cabinet. Australian Parliament and the people were not aware of this. This incident caused an uproar in the Australian political arena. Former Prime Minister Turnbull , who is also a Liberal Party, said that Morrison did things secretly in a way that was not known to the public and the cabinet members, which was simply "incredible". The National Party, which is aligned with the Liberal Party led by Morrison, also expressed doubts about the relevant appointment. Morrison argued that he needed "emergency power" during the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent the affairs of his subordinates from being in charge when the relevant ministers are unable to perform their duties.
Reuters said that on November 30 local time, the motion to condemn the Labor Party, the ruling party to which Australian Prime Minister Albany belonged, was passed in the House of Representatives with a vote of 86 votes in favor and 50 votes against. Albanis said during Congress debate over the motion that he supported it.
The Australian said that during the entire motion voting process, Morrison fiddled with his phone and only looked up briefly. Australia's Crikey News and Comments website also added that Morrison looked relaxed and even giggled at what was on his phone.
Also, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Morrison also defended his behavior again. He told the Australian Parliament that he would not apologize for taking urgent actions during the epidemic just in case, and he was proud of his achievements and the government under his post.
"I don't intend to succumb to the political intimidation of this administration, they use the number of people in this place (Parliament) to retaliate against their political opponents," Morrison said.
ABC said the condemnation motion was the toughest statement of objection that the Australian Parliament could make, but it was only symbolic and would not have any consequences for Morrison as a backbencher.
