According to Cambodian media, on the morning of May 30, the Supreme Court opened a hearing to hear the appeal case of a man suspected of raping a 16-year-old girl in Preah Vihear Province in 2019.

It is reported that the defendant is Wandi, male, 26 years old; the victim is a 16-year-old underage girl.

It is understood that the defendant was arrested in New Society County, Preah Vihear Province on March 21, 2019. Subsequently, on August 13, 2019, the Preah Vihear Provincial Lower Court sentenced the defendant to 7 years' imprisonment for "rape" in accordance with Article 239 of the Criminal Code.

However, the defendant was dissatisfied and appealed. However, the above-mentioned court upheld the original judgment. The defendant therefore continued his appeal to the Supreme Court.

At present, the Supreme Court has announced that it will announce the final verdict on the morning of June 6.
