Xinhua News Agency, Maputo, December 11th (Reporter Nie Zuguo) The handover ceremony of the China-Aided "Wan Cun Tong" Mozambique project in Africa was held on the 11th in Murupura, Nampula Province, northern Mozambique.
Mozambican President Nyusi, Minister of Transport and Communications Abdullai, and Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Wang Hejun attended the ceremony.
Nyusi thanked the Chinese government and people for the technical and equipment support provided to promote the development of Mozambique’s television and information and communication industries. They believed that the project would help reduce the digital and information gap between Mozambique’s urban and rural areas and between the country and the world. Improving local people's livelihood and promoting public education and social development are of great significance.
Wang Hejun said in his speech that the development of China and Mozambique promotes and assists each other. The smooth handover of the "Wan Cun Tong" project is another important result of pragmatic cooperation between the two countries. The "Wancuntong" project will help people in the vast rural areas of Mozambique to enrich their cultural life, obtain information and improve their labor skills.
Wang Hejun and Abdullai signed the project handover certificate at the ceremony. China Star Times Media (Mozambique) Co., Ltd., which undertook the project, donated epidemic prevention materials, school bags, stationery and other items to local primary schools. The
"Village Link" project is one of the China-Africa humanities cooperation measures proposed at the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2015. It aims to connect 10,000 villages in African countries with satellite digital TV signals. The "Wancuntong" project was launched in Mozambique in 2018, installing satellite TV equipment in 1,000 villages, 20,000 households and 3,000 public places in the country, providing TV signals and programs, and covering 2.5 million rural people.
