South Korea's Chosun Ilbo quoted the ranking results on January 2 as saying that the United States ranked first among the most powerful countries in the world last year. China and Russia ranked second and third respectively. South Korea ranked sixth, surpassing Japan.
It is understood that the world power rankings rank 85 countries around the world, and the results are weighted based on the average scores of each country on five attributes: comprehensive leadership, economic influence, political influence, international allies and military strength. Scores for each attribute were derived through interview questions and answers. The survey conducted before the release of this year's rankings included nearly 18,000 respondents from 36 countries around the world. In addition to the United States, China and Russia, the countries ranked fourth to tenth among the top ten countries in the world are Germany, the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Israel.
The list evaluated that the United States is the world's dominant economic and military power, Russia is one of the world's top economic powers based on huge natural resources, and China is one of the world's fastest-growing major economies. In addition, the list evaluates South Korea as "having the highest total national savings and high foreign exchange reserves in the world" and Japan as "the third largest economy in the world."
