According to reports from CNN and ABC 25, on Christmas Eve, several buses full of immigrants stopped in front of the residence of US Vice President Harris in Washington, DC. The temperature at that time was only 18 degrees Fahrenheit (about minus 8 degrees Celsius).
Migrants in the first two vehicles to arrive were taken to local shelters, a government official said. Later on Saturday (24th), more buses arrived outside the official residence of the US Vice President. According to CNN, some immigrants were wearing only T-shirts in the cold weather. They were later given blankets and put on another bus bound for a local church. Amy Fisher, a volunteer with the Immigrant Solidarity Network, said that since April this year, a large number of immigrants have arrived in the U.S. capital every week, even "it's no different in the cold weather on Christmas Eve."
According to ABC 7 reports, Texas Governor Abbott should be responsible for this incident. This is the latest move in the governor's months-long immigration transportation operation. He and other Republican governors have repeatedly sent immigrants to Democratic-controlled cities and to the door of US Vice President Harris' official residence to pressure the US government to take measures to control immigration. The Democratic and Republican parties continue to engage in a "war of words" over the issue of immigration. The Republican governor vowed to "share" the burden of caring for immigrants with Democrats. Democrats dismissed it as a "despicable political conspiracy."
