French BFM television reported, citing eyewitnesses, that the shooting locations involved a Kurdish community center, a restaurant and a barber shop. Witnesses saw the attacker take out a pistol from the bag he was carrying, and then "heard five gunshots" and "people started running away." The shooting resulted in 3 deaths and 3 injuries, one of which was seriously injured. The 69-year-old attacker was later arrested by the police.

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said in a statement on the 25th that the suspect said during interrogation that a burglary at his home in 2016 triggered his "hatred of foreigners, which has become completely pathological."
In a subsequent update, the prosecutor's office stated that the suspect was discharged from the hospital after being transferred to the psychiatric department on the 24th. The police resumed his detention on the afternoon of the 25th, and he will be brought before an investigating judge for trial on the 26th.
Prosecutors have previously said the suspect was suspected of having racist motives in the initial murder and weapons offense charges.
Becuo said in the statement that during the earlier interrogation, the man claimed that he suffered from depression and had suicidal tendencies, and revealed that he had planned to commit suicide with the last bullet after launching the attack. The statement said the suspect lived at his parents' home and that a search of his parents' home found no evidence of any links to extremist ideologies.
Becuo previously revealed that the suspect had a criminal record in the judicial department and was temporarily detained. He was just released on the 12th of this month, but was subject to judicial monitoring.
French BFM TV station reported that the suspect attacked immigrants with a knife in an immigrant camp in the 12th district of Paris last year and was subject to judicial investigation for racist violence.
In response to this case, French President Macron previously stated that "Kurds in France have been the target of a hateful attack in the center of Paris" and ordered the Paris police chief to meet with the leaders of the local Kurdish community.
After the shooting, protesters from the local Kurdish community took to the streets calling for justice. The march on the 24th local time was originally planned to start at the Place de la République in Paris and was authorized by the Paris Police Department.
