According to the Guardian on November 13, after months of campaigning and billions of dollars in advertising spending, the U.S. midterm election can basically be attributed to: "Not as bad as Democrats worry."
Although the Florida Republicans achieved a huge victory, almost all candidates supported by former President Trump lost the election. The Democratic Party not only performed more than expected and successfully avoided the emergence of the "red wave", but also won two swing states and locked in control of the Senate. Their claim of abortion rights also achieved a key victory. Based on this, the Guardian named the biggest winner and biggest loser in the midterm elections respectively.

Biden is the number one "big winner"
The biggest winners of the US midterm elections selected by the Guardian are US President Biden, Florida Governor, Republican Ron DeSantis and Democratic Senate candidate John Fettman.
As the "big winner", Biden has always been the target of Republican attacks before the results of the US mid-term selection were announced one by one. The Republicans have advertised around the country, hoping that Biden and his Democratic Party will disgust voters. However, this doesn't seem to work, as Democrats overall received a much better vote than expected. Although Biden is still very unpopular, his approval rating once dropped to 39% in a Reuters poll this week, but this does not seem to affect his Democratic Party. This result may prompt Biden to firmly run for president again.
Democrats led by Biden have also won key victories in some places. Among them, Michigan voters approved a voting issue to ensure constitutional abortion rights. Kentucky voters have vetoed an issue that rejects the constitutional protection of the right to abortion.
The second "big winner" is Florida Governor and Republican Ron DeSantis, who easily won re-election with a big lead vote, and the state was originally a swinging state. He made the front page of The New York Post, and the media called him the future of Republicans. However, he has been cautious about whether he will run for president in 2024, but if DeSantis really wants to start the campaign, it will be a good start.
The third "big winner" is Democratic Senate candidate John Fettman. Although he had a stroke in early May this year and his body was recovering, he still overcame the challenges brought by Republicans and was successfully elected as a member of the U.S. Senate.
Trump is recognized as the "big loser"
In this midterm election, Trump is recognized as the "big loser" by many media because many candidates he supports have lost one after another in key elections across the country. Murdoch, who previously supported Trump, seems to have given up his support. Several media under Murdoch Media Group have published public articles saying that Trump is the "biggest loser" in the midterm elections. The New York Post, a tabloid under Murdoch Media Group, portrayed Trump as the shaky "Mr. Egg Head (a character in the movie Toy Story)" sitting on a brick wall in a nursery rhyme, and said he suffered a tragic Waterloo in the election, accusing him of failing to allow the Republican Party to sweep his opponent Democratic Party in the election battle for control of Congress and governorship.
In addition, some candidates in the Republican Party performed very failed. In Pennsylvania, Republican Doug Mastriano was defeated in the gubernatorial campaign after spending money to send people to the Capitol Hill riot on January 6 last year and trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
In fact, Republicans except Florida and New York are considered losers. The Guardian reported that the Democratic Party has an unpopular president, Biden, and the economy is generally sluggish. The midterm election should have been a "red wave" for Republicans to sweep Congress. However, this did not happen, with the Democrats performing more than expected across the country.
U.S. Nevada Senator Democratic candidate Katherine Cortez Masto defeated his Republican rival Adam Laxolter with 48.7% of the votes and won the Nevada Senate election, which also means that the Democrats have locked in 50 seats in the Senate. Even in the second round of Georgia elections scheduled to be held early next month, the Republicans can turn the tables against the wind and win the 50th seat, and the Democrats can control the Senate with the decisive vote of Vice President Harris.
