According to Japanese media, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, trial operation of the world's first drone tsunami warning system on the 17th. This system can automatically send drones to issue alarms when a tsunami occurs, reminding people to evacuate.
Sendai municipal government officials demonstrated the drone tsunami warning system on the roof of a municipal facility that day. The drone is about 1 meter long and is connected to Japan's "National Instant Instant Alert System". It will automatically take off when the tsunami warning is issued. The drone can fly over the coastal area at an altitude of about 50 meters for about 15 minutes, warning people to evacuate.
According to the Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) TV station, citing Sendai Municipal Government officials, this is the world's first automatic operation drone for tsunami warning, which can be controlled through a specific communication network, and the network is unlikely to be interrupted even if a disaster occurs. Compared to helicopters, the drone takes off faster and can alarm from lower altitudes.
According to Japanese media, the research and development purpose of this warning system mainly includes two aspects. First, expand the scope of alarm transmission and strengthen the early warning effect of remote coastal areas; second, replace staff to issue alarms to dangerous areas to minimize casualties.
On March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake occurred in the waters near Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. The huge tsunami triggered hit the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, which was operated by Tokyo Electric Power Company, triggering a serious leakage of radioactive material .
