China Youth Daily Client Beijing, September 19 (China Youth Daily·China Youth Network reporter Liu Changrong) The weekly newspaper of the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention released the "Online Minutes: The First imported monkeypox case in Mainland China - Chongqing City, China, September 16, 2020" (hereinafter referred to as "Online Minutes").
On-site minutes pointed out that a 29-year-old Chinese salesperson visited Germany from September 2 to 8 and had sex in Berlin on September 2. He then went to Spain and returned to Chongqing on September 14. The man had a dry and itchy throat. He had a fever on September 9, and had a red rash and pustules on his right ankle. On September 11, he went to a private clinic to take anti-inflammatory drugs. On September 14, he was isolated at the Chongqing COVID-19 isolation point. He reported himself that he had a clinical manifestation of monkeypox, and was later identified as a suspected case of monkeypox by the Chongqing Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
After testing, the monkeypox virus (China-CQ202209) in the above case belongs to the B.1 branch of West African line and is highly homologous to the German virus collected on June 21. These results confirm that the case is the first imported monkeypox case in mainland China. The on-site minutes of
also stated that at present, many cases of monkeypox have been found in many non-endemic countries outside Central and West Africa, and human-to-human transmission has occurred frequently. Especially in men and men, new clinical symptoms similar to syphilis and other sexually transmitted infections have emerged. On July 23, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).
After Chongqing reported imported monkeypox cases, Wu Zunyou, chief epidemiologist of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, issued a document pointing out that the "foreign prevention and import" measures for the prevention and control of the new crown epidemic have played an important role in protecting the epidemic. The reported monkeypox case in Chongqing was discovered during the "7+3" quarantine process of the new crown prevention and control entry.
Wu Zunyou further explained that the incubation period of monkey pox is 5-21 days, most of which are 6-13 days. The entry "7+3" quarantine measures for the prevention and control of the new crown epidemic can intercept most imported monkeypox cases, but cases with incubation period of more than 7 days may flow into society.
By analyzing the contagious laws of previous infectious diseases, Wu Zunyou believes that considering that there are currently more than 5 monkeypox cases in three countries in the Western Pacific region, there is very little possibility that there will be a leaked case in addition to the first monkeypox case in Chongqing.
Since early May, monkeypox cases have been reported in some non-historical endemic countries and regions, and most confirmed cases with travel history have visited Europe and North America, rather than West Africa and Central Africa where monkeypox is endemic. The World Health Organization said that this is the first time since the monkeypox virus was discovered that many monkeypox cases have been reported simultaneously in non-historical endemic countries and historical endemic countries in different geographical regions. According to the World Health Organization, as of September 5, 52,996 monkeypox cases and 18 deaths were reported in 102 countries and regions around the world.
Monkeypox belongs to the genus Orthopoxvirus of the Poxviral family, and is one of the four viruses that cause human disease (the remaining 3 are smallpox virus, vaccinia virus and vaccinia virus). Monkeypox virus has two branches: West Africa and the Congo Basin, among which the mortality rate of West Africa branch is about 3%, and the mortality rate of Congo Basin branch is about 10%. Since May, the sequencing analysis results of monkeypox cases found in non-endemic areas are West Africa branch.
In order to prevent and control the monkeypox epidemic, on June 27, the National Health Commission issued the "Technical Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Monkeypox (2022 Edition), pointing out that disease control aims to achieve early detection, early reporting, early diagnosis, early investigation and early disposal. When medical and health institutions at all levels and types receive patients with fever and rash on a daily basis, they should pay attention to inquire about the epidemiological history of the case and conduct etiology screening at the same time. People entering and leaving the country and people involved in the epidemic need to pay attention to the monkeypox epidemic information in their country. People returning from the epidemic area should pay attention to self-health monitoring. When symptoms such as rashes occur, they should take the initiative to seek medical treatment and inform the doctor of the epidemic area travel history to assist in diagnosis and treatment. If you have a history of contact and exposure abroad and have not yet developed symptoms, you can actively contact the local CDC for consultation and reporting.
