Spanish media recently reported that four local police officers in the city of Torrevieja in Valencia and two other men accused of being middlemen underwent a second court trial in recent days. They were accused of extorting businesses, while the middlemen were responsible for persuading victims. People paid favors to these policemen.
A total of two owners were blackmailed. One of them was a Chinese citizen. He and his wife owned a restaurant in Punta Prima. The owner said that the policeman who pleaded guilty on the first day of the trial initially demanded up to 40,000 euros from him, and later on the second day During the first conversation he lowered the amount. The owner
explained that the policemen came to his restaurant to inspect and then issued several fines. The policemen assured him that if he gave him money, they would not close the restaurant. The meeting with the police took place through his jeweler friend who told him he could help him. The first time the police asked for too many Chinese people and they didn't agree. The second time they talked, the overseas Chinese recorded everyone's conversation. Several police officers told him that "40,000 euros can solve the problem."
But the boss was unable to pay the 40,000 euros and the above amounts were reduced to 8,000 and 6,000 euros. However, the overseas Chinese did not pay the other party one euro, but took the recording to the police station to report the crime. The police immediately launched an investigation and identified the four police officers.
On the other hand, the owner of a car buying and selling company in Torrevieja complained that he was extorted. He claimed during the trial that he did pay the local police twice. He has said he encountered problems on two occasions, each time paying a thousand euros to one of the four local police officers on trial but receiving no receipt.
