Rupert Murdoch vs. Hall
Hall, 65, filed the lawsuit in California Superior Court in Los Angeles County, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE on Friday. She cited irreconcilable differences and was seeking support from her spouse.
She also hopes the courts will side with her estranged husband. Hall asked 91-year-old Murdoch to pay her legal fees.
In her filing, she said she "is not aware of the full nature and extent of all assets and liabilities and will amend this application as the information is determined." The same goes for community and quasi-community properties.
Murdoch has 30 days to respond.
Hall’s attorney did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. It was unclear who was commenting on Murdoch's behalf.
Hall's filing comes after two sources familiar with the situation told the New York Times last month that Hall and Murdoch were divorcing. People close to them were reportedly shocked by the split.
They first married in a civil ceremony at London's Spencer House on March 4, 2016, a rep for the venue confirmed to PEOPLE at the time. The following day they held the main wedding ceremony for up to 200 friends and family at St Bride's Church in historic Fleet Street .
They began dating in the summer of 2015 after being introduced by one of Murdoch's sisters and his niece in Australia. They announced their engagement the following January and kept much of their romance private.
According to the " Times ", their divorce is not expected to affect his stakes in businesses such as Fox News and The Wall Street Journal , because his family's shares in the companies he founded are safe.
