Snake Island, located in the Black Sea, was under the control of Russian forces at the beginning of the special operation to protect Donbass that began on February 24. According to Igor Konashenkov, the Russian armed forces completed their mission on the island and withdrew their garrison as a show of goodwill. In this way, the Russian Federation shows the world that it will not create obstacles for the United Nations to establish a humanitarian corridor for the export of agricultural products from Ukraine.
As Konashenkov said, now Kiev authorities will not be able to find an excuse to say that there is no way to export food from Ukraine.
The Ukrainian armed forces have tried to retake the island many times before, but they all ended in failure.
As military expert Dmitry Boltenkov explained in an interview with " Izvestia ", Snake Island has an important strategic position, since it is absolutely possible to control all routes to Odessa from the island approach.
