To give a small analogy, the principle of dripping water penetrating a stone
is like having a stone with water constantly dripping from above. This is the principle of dripping water penetrating the stone.
In most cases, if water drips continuously, a small puddle will appear above the stone. As long as it does not penetrate, the puddle will be partially filled with water.
Assume that the bottom and bottom of the stone are tightly integrated, without any gaps , even if water drops penetrate the stone, the puddle will still exist.
The reason is very simple, is because the water flow below is not smooth.
The water flows away automatically from top to bottom, instead of overflowing.
When we talk about physical filtering of the water above, it must pass through the filter cotton smoothly from top to bottom, and flow to the bottom . This is very important. To put it simply, is not something many aquarists can’t do, but they can’t think of it.
No matter what filtration mode it has, no matter how many layers of filter cotton it has, how big is the water flow?
Anyway, when achieves the above effect, it is the best form of physical filtering.
As for how to place and arrange it, it all depends on your own continuous practice and changes. If can achieve this effect, it will be fine. If it cannot, it will need to be adjusted.
Whether it is a bottom filter, a sorting box or a trickle box, the principle is the same. The closer the bottom of the filter cotton is to the bottom of the filter box, the thicker and denser the and paving will be, and the greater the flow of water.
Then, the speed of entering the water may be slower, and the speed of water accumulation will be faster.
Water accumulates too quickly, and impurities no longer pass through the filter cotton.
As long as the water accumulates quickly, it is not just an overflow problem, but impurities may float above the filter cotton. Circled, So, how can it have a good filtering effect?
Because most of the impurities flow directly away with the rising water, either into the fish tank or into the next level filter chamber.

Strictly speaking, this is not good. As long as the filter cotton is diffused, impurities will float up. It is such a simple reason.
Some can raise the wet and dry separation, and some can lower the water level in the bottom filter chamber.
If there is no space, the water level cannot be raised or lowered, then it depends on the situation of other positions after physical filtration, and the overall water stability.
