Recently, researcher Chen Shengyun from Northwest Institute of Ecological Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences , Qinghai Province's "High-end Innovative Talents Thousand Talents Plan" leading talent (flexible) researcher, Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences researcher Zhang Tongzuo, Qinghai Normal University The second comprehensive scientific investigation and research team on the Tibetan Plateau, composed of Professor An Fuyuan and Associate Professor Rong Zhanlei of the University, jointly conducted a survey and research on the diversity of wildlife in the territory with the assistance of the Wildlife Conservation Station of Huangyuan County, Xining City, Qinghai Province. When sorting out and recycling infrared camera image data from the past year, it was found that moving images of the snow leopard , the flagship species of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, were captured at an altitude of 4,096 meters in Riyue Tibetan Township, Huangyuan County. This is the first time a snow leopard image has been captured in Huangyuan County. The straight-line distance from the main urban area of Xining is less than 50 kilometers. It fills the gap of no snow leopard image data in non-protected areas in Xining City and enhances and enriches snow leopards in Xining City biodiversity Evidence is provided in the distribution area of the Tibetan Plateau.
The snow leopard is at the top of the food chain of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau ecosystem and is regarded as a "barometer" for assessing the health of high-altitude ecosystems. It is a vulnerable species in the "World Conservation Union Red List of Endangered Species" and " List of national key protected wild animals 》 National first-level protected animals . In addition, a variety of rare wild animals such as horse musk deer, desert cat, stone marten, and Tibetan snow chicken were also photographed in the same area, all of which are included in the "International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Endangered Species". Among them, the horse musk deer is an endangered species and the desert cat is a vulnerable species. Both are national first-level protected species in the "List of National Key Protected Wild Animals". This discovery shows that Xining and its surrounding areas are rich in wild animals and ecologically healthy. It is recommended that local departments should fully raise awareness of ecological protection and strengthen protection and restoration measures for wild animals and plants and their habitats in the future to effectively protect rare animals and biodiversity.

It generally inhabits alpine shrubs, tundra, and bare rock areas between the upper forest line and the snow line at an altitude of 3,000 to 6,000 meters.
