According to the staff at Daqishan Station of Jiuling Mountain Reserve, one day in March this year, when they were carrying out the work of recovering and sorting out infrared camera data, they found that the camera recorded The moving figure of a striped cat-like animal. The animal has a small and graceful body, with thick and randomly arranged markings, and a long tail covered with circles of tail rings. It is obviously different from other cats. Finally, after consulting a large amount of relevant information and consulting animal experts, last week It was finally determined as national second-level protected animal spotted forest raccoon.

The spotted forest civet, also known as the spotted forest cat, is the smallest civet in my country and is very rare in the wild. It is included in the " IUCN Red List of Endangered Species " and the "Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora". This is the first time this species has been photographed in the Jiulingshan Nature Reserve, and it is a new recorded species in the nature reserve.

Peng Yong, the webmaster of Daqishan Station, told reporters that spotted forest civets had only appeared in southern Jiangxi before, and were very rare in the entire northwestern Jiangxi region. The spotted forest civet discovered this time is of great significance for studying the habitat and migration routes of cat suborder animals in southeastern China, maintaining ecological balance and the process of ecosystem recovery.

The "Chinese Treasure Bird" was photographed for the first time

Two infrared cameras at Daqishan Station also captured the "Chinese Treasure Bird" White-necked Pheasant.

The most obvious feature of the white-necked long-tailed pheasant is that it has a white ring-shaped stripe on its neck. Its tail is longer than that of the pheasant. The male's fur is very bright. It is timid and alert in nature, and is good at flying and running, so it is difficult to see it in daily life. The white-necked long-tailed pheasant has historically been widely distributed in Jiulingshan Nature Reserve, but no image data of them has been captured in the Daqishan area before.

It is reported that the white-necked long-tailed pheasant, commonly known as barred-backed pheasant , Phasianidae , genus Long-tailed Pheasant, is a bird endemic to China, often found in low-mountain areas broad-leaved forests and mixed forests below 1100 meters above sea level. As a habitat, it mainly feeds on plants and insects. This species is included in the Red List of Endangered Species by the World Conservation Union, and is a nationally protected animal in my country.

The ecology of the reserve is more diverse

According to Director Liu of the Jiulingshan Reserve Office, the infrared camera also captured the national second-level protected animals white pheasant , macaque , spoon chicken , with key protected animals such as civets and Pig badger , yellow muntjac , wild boar, etc. This shows that the ecology of Jiulingshan Reserve is more diverse and the natural environment is more suitable for animal habitats.
