"If you can't stop the war, then tell the world the truth about the war!" This is a motto believed by war correspondents. During the Anti-Japanese War, 25-year-old Ta Kung Pao reporter Lu Derun was stationed in the battlefield in northern Myanmar for one year and three months. This "real forward" of the Chinese Expeditionary Force wrote a large number of vivid and exclusive communications. He rode in the forefront of the tank and the B-25 bomber , bringing the distant battle closer to the eyes of the Chinese people. Recently, a reporter from Ta Kung Pao had an exclusive interview with Anne Lu, daughter of Lu Derun. She described to the Ta Kung Pao reporter her father’s bravery as a war reporter and recalled her father’s lifelong love for the cause of Ta Kung Pao.
Lu Anni said: "Colleagues of "Ta Kung Pao" also call my father one of the little tigers of Ta Kung Pao's war correspondents. The Chinese people commented that his communications are not like the literati in the ivory tower, but more of a bold and casual 'soldier style', and the writing is vivid and humorous."
clearly remembers that in 2005, the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the author had an exclusive interview with Mr. Lu Derun. The 87-year-old Mr. Lu was humorous and talkative: "Compared with other Ta Kung Pao special correspondents who went to the battlefield, my battlefield is the cheapest, with few people and a small scale, but the Chinese people are very concerned about it. There are hundreds of thousands of Chinese soldiers. This is China's only life-saving channel. This is the battlefield with the closest relationship with China." Talking about her father's journalistic philosophy, Lu Anni recalled: "He once told me many times: 'How can you be behind the scenes when covering news! Only by visiting the front line can you write good articles.' On the front line, he saw with his own eyes the heroism of the brothers in the Anti-Japanese War and the real scenes of killing the enemy and winning, so he was able to record real scenes in a 'soldier style' and bring distant battles closer to the eyes of the Chinese people. War reporters are a group of people who often have a brush with death, but he is not afraid, he is willing." Lu Anni said.
Lu Derun can be called the "real vanguard of the Chinese Expeditionary Force." Because the troops engage in cross operations, one group of forwards is often replaced by another group of forwards in the next battle, and he always rides in the frontmost tank. Because he often lives on the front line, he can also distinguish the difference between the sounds of mountain cannons and mortars.
Lu Derun once personally told Annie Lu about her interview experience on board the bomber . In order to obtain first-hand information from the front line, Lu Derun took the initiative to fly on a B-25 bomber and personally experienced the entire process of the Allied bombing of Mengyang. "My father said that it was actually very dangerous. Some of the planes in the same batch were hit by enemy planes. He walked selflessly into the primitive forest of Myanmar, Savage Valley, and wrote "A Visit to Savage Mountain". Savage Mountain The mosquitoes, poisonous snakes, miasma It was impossible to guard against, and every blow was a fatal wound. "
He hated the Japanese invasion deeply. At that time, Lu Derun went there during the rainy season in July, and the ground was covered with mud and sand up to his waist and chest. He wrote in his interview notes. : "Our soldiers and horses often get stuck in the mud. A few days ago, three more brothers from the 38th Division got stuck in the mud..." Lu Anni said, but her father was fearless. He wrote in the article: "People often connect the good material supply to the army stationed in India with the achievements of the army stationed in India. I also want to ask someone Let’s close our eyes and think about the difficult situation of the soldiers stationed in India.”

Lu Derun’s “bravery”, in Lu Anni’s view, comes from patriotism and hatred of the Japanese invaders. In the early days of the Anti-Japanese War, my father was studying in high school in Beijing. His hometown in Hebei Province had been occupied by the Japanese invaders, and Beijing was also occupied. In order to continue his studies, my father and his classmates fled to Xi'an as exiled students, and then to Chongqing. Finally, he was admitted to the Business School of Fudan University in Beibei, Chongqing. Japanese planes bombed Chongqing. He saw with his own eyes the tragic situation of schools and people being bombed, so he hated the Japanese invaders deeply.
"On the way with the army, he didn't know what 'fear' meant. He only knew about fighting Japan and writing reports. He didn't think about anything else. 'Either you die or I live!' Sitting on the bomber and seeing the plane bombing the Japanese base, he couldn't help cursing in his heart: 'You bomb us, I We will bomb you too!'"
Frontline soldiers demand "Ta Kung Pao"
As a "Ta Kung Pao" field reporter who interviewed with the Chinese Expeditionary Force, Lu Derun won reputation and respect for "Ta Kung Pao" with his outstanding work. He once recalled: ""Ta Kung Pao" was deeply loved by the soldiers on the front line. I still remember the scene when the soldiers on the front line asked me for "Ta Kung Pao"."
In 1999, Zhu Rongji, then Premier of the State Council, met Lu Derun, who was the deputy director of the State Council Counselor's Office, and said to the former war correspondent respectfully : "In the 1940s, when I was studying in 白区, I often saw your name in Ta Kung Pao. I love reading your articles." Lu Derun responded: "Thank you, Prime Minister, I don't want to be."
Ta Kung Pao was Lu Derun's first job and a place where he displayed his talents. This indissoluble bond stayed with him throughout his life. Lu Anni said with emotion: "From a newly graduated college student to a famous reporter, it was Ta Kung Pao that made my father successful and gave him the opportunity to interview major events and important figures. My father has always been proud to work in Ta Kung Pao and proud to leave bits and pieces of influential reports in Ta Kung Pao."
Northeastern Battlefield Communications Caused a social sensation
In 1945, after returning to China with the expeditionary force , Lu Derun was sent to Tianjin's "Ta Kung Pao" as a special correspondent in the Northeast. Also sent to the Northeast with him was Zhang Gaofeng, who became famous for writing "Records of Yu Disasters". They had a stance of caring about society and caring for the people. Through their vivid words, we can still truly understand the social turmoil at that time. When
was in the Northeast, Lu Derun could enter and exit the headquarters of Du Yuming, Liao Yaoxiang and others at will. In particular, when the "Military Adjustment Team" goes to local activities, Xinhua News Agency reporters cannot go, but Lu Derun, as a reporter for Ta Kung Pao, can go.
Zhang Gaofeng's son Zhang Ren once wrote an article recalling: "Uncle Lu said that at that time, the reports of "Ta Kung Pao" were very influential and weighty. Even Chiang Kai-shek would rather believe "Ta Kung Pao" than "Central Daily News". The more this is the case, the more cautious we as reporters must be when publishing reports. , the more we must adhere to an objective reporting stance. He said that the then Northeast Security Commander Du Yuming once ordered me and Gao Feng to be equipped with a full set of American equipment. Du asked why? We said that if you use your clothes, it would be hard to scold you, which made Du laugh and cry. ml2 "Journey to Harbin" presents the real life of the liberated areas, from the Japanese surrender in 1945 to the Liaoshen Campaign in 1948. In these three years, Lu Derun conveyed it to readers through vivid and passionate writing. It conveyed a lot of information: the joy of the people after the liberation of Northeast China, the situation of Japanese expatriates, what the Soviet army did during the occupation of Northeast China, the social ecology under the civil war, the cruel scenes on the battlefield, the corruption and incompetence of officials, the oppression of the people... These news documents are concise in text and full of details.
Anne Lu said that in January 1946, the United States, the Kuomintang, and the Communist Party established a "three-person group" to negotiate on ending domestic military conflicts, with its headquarters in the Northeast. At this time, interviewing the "three-person team" became my father's main task. My father shuttled among the three parties, interviewed senior officials from the three parties, obtained first-hand information, and wrote many telegrams and communications, which were published in "Ta Kung Pao".
One of the long newsletters, "Journey to Harbin", objectively reflected the political and military situation at the time and reported what was happening in the Northeast Liberated Areas. It was serialized in Ta Kung Pao for three days, which caused a great sensation at the time.
A great duke once, a great duke in his life
Lu Derun once said: "Only by visiting the front line in person can you write good articles." The picture shows Lu Derun in his youth.(Ta Kung Pao)
Lu Derun has created many firsts in the history of "Ta Kung Pao", and is even the only one: the first director of the office in Taiwan and the first director of the office in Beijing after the reform and opening up. His experience as the first director of "Ta Kung Pao" in Taiwan has lasted for seventy years, and no one has yet succeeded him. Achieving the reunification of the motherland was Lu Derun's unfulfilled wish until the end of his life.
According to Anne Lu, in January 1948, her father received a new assignment and was appointed as the special correspondent of Shanghai's "Ta Kung Pao" in Taiwan. Soon after, the Taiwan office of "Ta Kung Pao" was established, with his father also serving as director. While in Taiwan, my father still abided by Ta Kung Pao's patriotic, loving, objective, fair and strict stance, and reported on the progressive student movement many times.
In April 1949, the Taiwan authorities began to arrest progressives. They wanted to liquidate Lu Derun's reporting on the arrest of students in Taiwan and news unfavorable to the Kuomintang in the Northeast period, and ordered his arrest. After hearing the news, Lu Derun left Taiwan and arrived in Hong Kong with his newborn daughter and frail wife. "Later I heard from my father that not long after they left, the Taiwan authorities closed down the Taiwan office of Ta Kung Pao and published a newspaper saying that my father was a 'bandit' and asked people to report my father's whereabouts so that he could be punished. Later, my father wrote a long communication "Paper Curtain Taiwan" in Ta Kung Pao, exposing various shady and reactionary activities of the Taiwan authorities, and the social repercussions were considerable."
Promote cross-strait exchanges Heart System One Career
In 1990, Lu Derun, who had served as deputy director of the Counselor's Office of the State Council, used his extensive United Front background and resources at home and abroad to do a lot of work for cross-strait exchanges. At that time, the Taiwan authorities still prohibited mainland journalists from visiting Taiwan. Lu Derun delivered a speech through China News Service , calling on the Taiwan authorities to relax restrictions on mainland journalists' interviews with Taiwan, and proposed that two-way communication should be implemented in the press, which aroused great concern among the press circles on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. "Ta Kung Pao" reprinted this interview from China News Service.
A year later, Xinhua News Agency reporter Fan Liqing and China News Service reporter Guo Weifeng set foot on Taiwan for the first time, opening the front page of two-way cross-strait news exchanges. Lu Anni said, "After my father's forward-looking and pioneering initiative was published in newspapers, it played a positive role in promoting ice-breaking." In his seventies, Lu Derun is still working hard for the resumption of distribution of "Ta Kung Pao" in Taiwan. In 1995, "Ta Kung Pao" planned to be distributed to Taiwan, and the newspaper sent a special letter inviting Lu Derun and his wife Yu Yi to Hong Kong to discuss the matter. After returning to Beijing, Lu Derun reported the situation of "Ta Kung Pao" and the situation of the Hong Kong press to Qian Qichen, Vice Premier in charge of Hong Kong and Macao affairs. Quite coincidentally, Qian Qichen was Lu Derun’s colleague at Shanghai Ta Kung Pao in the 1940s.
Qian Qichen and Lu Derun both have deep feelings for the Grand Duke. It is said that Lu Lao came forward to invite Vice Premier Qian Qichen to many events of "Ta Kung Pao" back then, and Qian was happy to attend the appointment.
Ta Kung Pao's "husband and wife team" Husband sings and married woman follows
Lu Derun and his wife Yu Yi fell in love in "Ta Kung Pao" and got married. (Ta Kung Pao)
Lu Derun’s wife Yu Yi is a Ta Kung Pao person like him. They are an enviable couple among the "Ta Kung Pao" husband and wife team. According to Lu Anni, her mother graduated from the English Department of Shanghai St. John's University. After graduation, she worked as an English material translator and editor for Shanghai's "Ta Kung Pao".
When he was young, Lu Derun was handsome and handsome, while Yu Yi was beautiful and quiet. The talented man and the beautiful woman got married in 1948 and have been together for a long time. Until more than 20 years ago, the author met Mr. Lu and came in and out of his home, and I could still feel the tacit understanding between the two old men. Yu Yi didn't talk much, and would often avoid guests after greeting them. Lu Derun, on the other hand, was cheerful and talkative. When they got together, Mr. Lu was able to invite everyone to have a few glasses of wine. His wife looked at him and smiled.
In 1998, the correspondence reports of the "Expedition to Northern Burma" were compiled into a book. Lu Derun wrote a paragraph at the end of the preface: "Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to my wife, the old editor Yu Yi. Without her support and hard work in organizing and editing, this book would not be available to readers."
