Cailianshe, December 16 (Editor Zhou Ziyi) According to media reports, BP said it will invest 20 million Australian dollars (US$13.53 million) in Australian renewable energy company 5B.

The energy giant said it will invest in 5B through its subsidiary BP Ventures. The completion of this investment means the completion of 5B Company's $55 million Series B financing . The Series B financing was jointly led by Artesian, a venture capital firm in and energy technology company AES.

Australia's 5B company is mainly engaged in the field of solar energy technology and was established in 2013. One of the company's innovative technology, called "Maverick Solutions", aims to improve solar power systems.

5B says its Maverick system is a "fully prefabricated, plug-and-play solar farm." There is a 10-degree angle tilt mount at the bottom, and the component needs to be made in the factory. A mount can contain up to 90 solar photovoltaic cell modules.

BP said in a statement, "5B's fast-building solar technology can achieve fast, simple and low-cost solar installations."

BP said that 5B has deployed more than 60 megawatts of solar power generation technology worldwide, with projects located in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States.

BP added, "This investment will allow 5B to expand further globally and invest in R&D."

investment trend

BP CEO Bernard Looney recently said that the company's strategic focus is to invest in hydrocarbon field and energy transformation projects.

Looney pointed out last month, "Our strategy is to invest in the hydrocarbon field at present, which is the strategy implemented by BP around the world. Because today's energy system is the hydrocarbon system."

At the same time, Looney also believes that BP also needs to accelerate investment in energy transformation, such as carbon capture, electric vehicle charging, hydrogen energy and offshore wind energy.

BP has said its goal is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Previously, the International Energy Agency (IEA)'s "Renewable Energy Report 2022" predicted that during the energy industry crisis and the tension in geopolitical , the global power structure will undergo a major change.

Earlier this month, the International Energy Agency said that by around 2025, the proportion of renewable energy development will exceed that of coal, becoming the world's largest source of power generation.
