A seat in the mountains. How can a thousand-year-old Hakka flavor use limited restaurant space to build a cultural origin and connotation that a cuisine can map and form a unique brand identification carrier?

A seat in the mountains, Thousand-year-old Hakka flavor

How to use limited restaurant space,

to build a cultural origin and connotation that a cuisine can map,

forms a unique brand identification carrier?

in this case, in this case, the Youshan Design Team was commissioned to upgrade the brand and space image of "Back to the Mountain". Focusing on the product characteristics and historical roots of " Hakka cuisine ", we can see the whole culture with food, implant Hakka cultural elements with high compatibility with the brand in the catering space, and convey the brand spirit of "Back to the Mountain" to consumers.

Youshan design traces the origin of the Hakka people, deeply understands the huge impact of "mountain" on Hakka history. It is not only a continuation of the lifestyle of living back to the mountains, but also a taste inheritance of Hakka cuisine. It proposes the core design theme of "one seat in the mountains, a thousand-year Hakka flavor", and is committed to positioning "back to the mountains" as a high-quality restaurant with Hakka culture as the core.

Thousands of years ago, the Hakka ancestors living in the Central Plains moved from north to south after natural disasters and wars, crossing the ancient post roads and coming to the hilly belts in the mountains. "After a long time, the hometown changes," the Hakka ancestors learned from each other and regarded themselves as "guests", becoming today's "Hakka people".

"No guest can stay in the mountains" is a belief that runs through the life of Hakka people. Hakka Minsheng Base Camp has the saying "eight mountains, one water, one branch of the field". It lives on the mountain and eats on the mountain. It uses the mountain as a carrier to carry the history of Hakka people expanding the mountains and fields. Dig up wasteland and farm in the mountains and cultivate your own small land. The Hakka people's livelihood and reproduction cannot be separated from the support of "mountain". Based on a long-term immigration life, Hakka's unique food culture was formed. "Back to the mountain" is not only the hometown in the mountains, but also the destination in the city. Relying on the theme of "a seat in the mountains, a thousand-year-old Hakka flavor", "Backing Mountain" not only explores and shares natural and authentic food in the mountains, but also brings Hakka life scenes and culture into the city, retelling the original vernacular memory for diners. Here, local life and modern catering space overlap, the truth, simplicity and roughness of the mountains and fields are transplanted into it, integrating with the modern, refined and brightness of the city, pulling out the thousands of thoughts of foreigners.

Guest house - There must be guests in every mountain

First enter the "backing mountain", two huge rammed earth walls stand at the entrance of the restaurant, as if guests are inviting guests to the table. The walled room in the middle hall is the most stunning visual center of the entire restaurant. As the most representative building with Hakka culture, the walled house combines the simplicity of the Central Plains and the architectural characteristics of the southern mountainous areas, representing the open, reunion and inclusive Hakka spirit. The design team used steel structures and real tiles to build a roof full of visual impact directly above the restaurant's central hall. The center is embedded with a dome luminous light film to spray painting to form a "sky" effect, replicating the realistic typical Hakka walled building.

As a symbol of the origin of Hakka culture, the explicit features of the enclosed house and rammed earth wall are used as important elements of spatial design. It not only inherits and carry forwards, but also requires reconstruction and redesign based on deep understanding.

The arc-shaped earth wall of the enclosure is made of rammed earth. After manual tapping and polishing, it shows the mottled sense of age and vicissitudes of the wall, restoring the natural simplicity of the original wall, and improving the overall environment creation. A door hole in the center of the rammed earth wall is designed to break the monotony of the entire wall. The glass wall on the far right is part of the inner box. The contrast between the rammed earth wall and the glass material forms a strong conflict between traditional and modern materials. The mountain landscape painting becomes the background in the overall shape of the rammed earth wall, breaking away from the single and rigid visual silence.

Mountain view - Guests come from the mountains

Restaurant is spread out scattered with huge clouds surrounding the mountain scenery and Hakka walled houses, creating an atmosphere of a seat in the mountains and an immersive and appropriate environment, tacitly cooperating with the brand attributes of "backing".

The overall mountain view photo in the box is decorated with wooden fences, which is like having a picnic in the mountains. When you light up the retro lantern hanging on the bamboo pole lamp stand, the atomized glass in the box will be transformed into frosted glass, which not only ensures the privacy of the space, but also has transparency.

Folk art—Shouyi redesign

Traditional handicraft products are the crystallization of folk wisdom and living temperature. The vines from the mountains have become exquisite containers everywhere through their rough but clever hands. The grid rattan chair, rattan decoration behind the deck, and rattan curved partition above the bright are mixed with traditional handicrafts and modern design materials to achieve rebirth. Echoing the Hakka cultural themes of "migration" and "integration".

Youshan design also creatively applies Hakka rattan craft elements to restaurant partitions. The space grid rattan screen is lightly cut, and the indoor light flows through the screen mesh. The shadows are everywhere, the sound of personal conversations, and the figures of customers walking around can make people feel the breath of life. A little bit of light emerges from the gaps in the latitude and latitude, creating a warm dining atmosphere and a rare human touch.

Each small chandelier is a mini-enclosed house designed and made of white acrylic, which enhances the recognition of Hakka cultural elements. The bright stall around the dining table is neat and bright, fully displaying the food cooking process before diners. From the small dining table furnishings, to tableware design, wall decorations in the restaurant, etc., all are considered by designers and are moving with details.

One seat - a thousand-year-old Hakka flavor

During the millennium period, who had never been a guest in a foreign land?

Oncestors entered the mountains from history and derived the Hakka lifestyle from the mountains. Mountains are both the bond between history and reality, and the bond between Hakka and the outside world. Generations of Hakka people have reproduced and nurtured under the protection and cultivation of the mountains, leaving behind a cultural mark exclusive to the ethnic group and projected into the expression of Hakka cuisine. The formation of Hakka cuisine is the process of Hakka people constantly searching for food and suitable cooking methods during their migration.

Youshan design uses a walled house as a footnote to build a Hakka mountain residence far away in the mountains in the city center; and the "backer" ignites the fire, giving you the authentic Hakka taste in the memory of a wanderer in a foreign land. This mountain and this taste are better than thousands of words in one meal.
