China News Service Chengdu, April 14 (Qi Yuting) The decoration style is refreshing and bright, with some Southeast Asian style objects placed. This Kome Malaysian restaurant located on Tongzilin South Road, Chengdu is not large in area, but can eat the most authentic Malaysian dishes in Chengdu. On the 13th, Zhang Yaowen, the founder and chef of the restaurant, said that he had been persisting in making authentically flavoured hometown dishes in Chengdu, which is far away from his hometown.
Zhang Yaowen is from Malaysia Kuala Lumpur . Since he first came to Chengdu in 2014, he has fallen in love with this open, inclusive, leisurely, comfortable and rapidly developing city. "Chengdu people are very friendly to foreigners, are willing to understand and try foreign things, and are also very tolerant." Zhang Yaowen said that it is this open and inclusive cultural atmosphere that makes him feel friendly to Chengdu and has the confidence to open this restaurant.

Malaysian cuisine is as strong as Sichuan cuisine and contains spicy flavors, but the spicy taste of Malaysian cuisine is spicy. Cooking hometown flavor, Zhang Yaowen tries to balance Malaysian tradition with Chengdu local flavor. In order to ensure the authenticity of the dishes, many spices and some rare ingredients in the restaurant are imported from Malaysia; considering the eating habits of Chengdu people, some Malaysian dishes with thick sauces or sweet tastes do not appear on the restaurant menu.
"Malaysian cuisine is also spicy, but it is not numb. Customers who are used to Sichuan cuisine will hope that there is also numb flavor. So some Malaysian restaurants, or restaurants that hire Malaysian chefs, mostly choose to improve and incorporate numb flavors, or other Sichuan flavors in half a year. On the other hand, there are also some people who may give up after making a profit for a year, but I persevere." Zhang Yaowen said.
Zhang Yaowen's persistence in authentic flavors has gradually made this exotic dish try and accept by more and more locals. "In recent years, more and more Chengdu people have traveled to Malaysia. When they come to me, they will know that it is authentic Malaysian flavor." Now, Zhang Yaowen's restaurant has long become a place for many Malaysians in Chengdu to relieve their homesickness, and there are also many local old customers who like Malaysian cuisine, and their business is getting better and better every year.
As Chengdu's internationalization accelerates, more and more foreign restaurants gather here. Zhang Yaowen believes that Chengdu not only has local food, but also can eat food from all over the country and even around the world. This is a kind of inclusive food culture and a manifestation of Chengdu’s confidence in food.
"Someone wanted to invite me to work in Shanghai before, but I didn't agree. I still like the atmosphere in Chengdu more. There are many people who like food here, and I have made many good friends." Zhang Yaowen said that he encountered many setbacks and even had the idea of giving up during the opening of a restaurant, but the encouragement and recognition of him by Chengdu customers brought him a lot of warmth, and he also persisted in those difficulties one by one.
Zhang Yaowen said that now he regards Chengdu as his second hometown and plans to continue to stay here in the future, insist on the operation of the restaurant, and continue to bring authentic Malaysian dishes to his friends in Chengdu. (End)
