Times Higher Education (THE) updated the latest THE World University Rankings in 2022. The ranking of Chinese universities has risen again, with two universities entering the top 20 for the first time, setting a record for the best in Asia. The Times Higher Education Ranking is one of the “Big Three” in the Higher Education Ranking, which is based on 13 indicators to measure the performance of a university in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international prospects. In 2021, the ranking covers 1,662 universities from 99 countries and regions.
Among American universities, Caltech and Princeton University both rose by 2 places, ranking 2nd and 7th in the world respectively. The top ten universities in the United States are relatively concentrated in the overall rankings. Except for Columbia University (11), Johns Hopkins University and Pennsylvania (tied to 13), the other eight American universities are in the top ten in the world in the overall rankings. There are 12 American universities in the top 20, and American universities continue to dominate the THE rankings.
Mainland China has become the fourth largest country and region (97) with the number of universities on the list. The total number of universities on the list continues to increase, of which 8 universities are on the list for the first time. Tsinghua University and Peking University are tied for 16th, which is the highest ranking in history for mainland Chinese universities. In addition, a total of 10 universities in mainland China ranked among the top 200 in the world, setting a record high.

UK
UK universities also have a very eye-catching ranking. Among the top G5 universities in the UK, Oxford University ranked 1st on the THE list for the sixth consecutive year; Cambridge University rose 1st to 5th; Imperial College ranked 12th; University College London ranked 18th; London School of Political Science and Economics was the same as last year, ranking 27th.
Canada
A total of 5 universities in Canada are among the top 100 in the world, namely University of Toronto (18), University of British Columbia (37), McGill University (44), McMaster University (80), and University of Montreal (88).
Australia
A total of 6 universities in Australia are among the top 100 in the world. Among them, , the University of Melbourne ranked 33rd in the world, firmly ranked first in the Australian universities. The other five universities in the Top 100 are Australian National University (54), Queensland University (54), Monash University (57), Sydney University (58), and University of New South Wales (70).
