This year, a total of 1,662 universities from 99 countries and regions were on the list (136 universities and 6 countries and regions added compared to last year), becoming the largest world university ranking list to date.

The highlights of this ranking are:

Tsinghua University and Peking University tied for 16th;

10 mainland Chinese universities ranked among the top 200, setting a historical record; 90% of them are on the list of top 2200 universities in

200 universities, 90% of them are in the list of top 200 universities. The ranking of mainland Chinese universities has risen;

97 mainland Chinese universities are on the list, setting a historical record, of which 8 universities are on the list for the first time; mainland China has become the fourth largest number of universities on the list, second only to the United States (183) Institute), Japan (118 institutes) and the United Kingdom (101 institutes);

Due to engaging in COVID-19 related research, the citation scores of many universities in mainland China have improved;

Tsinghua University and Peking University tied for 16th place in the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Compared with the 2021 world university rankings, Peking University rankings have improved by 7 places and Tsinghua University has improved by 4 places.

In recent years, Tsinghua University and Peking University have made rapid progress in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Mainland China also set a new record. This time, a total of 10 universities ranked among the top 200, of which 9 universities rose.

Wuhan University (No. 157), Southern University of Science and Technology (No. 162) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (No. 181) are the first universities to enter the top 200.

Among them, Guangzhou University (No. 601-800) is the highest-ranked new university in mainland China this year.

According to the ranking method of this year, universities in Japan, South Korea, Russia, Singapore and Hong Kong, China all achieved the best rankings in history. The rankings of the University of Tokyo in Japan (35th), Hong Kong University (30th), Seoul University in Korea (54th), National University of Singapore (21st), and Lomonosov National University in Moscow (158th) have all risen.
