Today, the FIVF Administrative Committee approved an updated version of the 2020-2021 volleyball calendar after the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the cancellation of the 2020 World Volleyball League.

Local time yesterday (May 13), news was reported in Lausanne, Switzerland. The FIVF Administrative Committee approved an updated version of the 2020-2021 volleyball calendar after the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the cancellation of the 2020 World Volleyball League (VNL). Earlier this week, the FIVF Executive Committee submitted a draft calendar. The updated version of the

calendar includes the 2021 World Volleyball League (VNL) schedule, and the possibility of returning and/or starting of professional leagues in various countries and regions in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons. The new version of the calendar takes the health of everyone in the global volleyball family as the main starting point for consideration.

2020-2021 volleyball calendar is updated as follows:

1, 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 professional leagues in various countries and regions

FIVF allows leagues in all countries and regions to start from June 1, 2020 to complete the 2019-2020 season or start the 2020-2021 season. Countries and regions can only arrange the schedule of professional leagues when ensuring safety, and must comply with health and safety guidelines issued by national and local authorities.

In addition, professional leagues in all countries and regions will be required to implement comprehensive safety and protection measures to ensure the health of athletes, fans, staff and all stakeholders involved in the organization of the event. This decision essentially allows volleyball games to be resumed domestically in countries, in a safe situation. After that, athletes will have the opportunity to return to the international arena and show their style to volleyball fans around the world.

FIVF will also review the plans of each national or regional professional league case by case. League organizers can only implement it under the premise of approval by FIVF.

In view of the decision of the FIVF to cancel international events such as the World Volleyball League this year, professional leagues in countries or regions are allowed to start earlier than usual, but national or regional professional leagues in the 2020-2021 season shall end no later than April 18, 2021.

2, Volleyball Intercontinental Club Championship

All Intercontinental Volleyball Club Championship finals (such as Asian Club Cup, European Champions League , etc.) should be held before May 2, 2021.

3, 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 International Transfer Licenses (ITCs)

In accordance with the requirements of the FIVF, the validity period of players' international transfer licenses for professional leagues in all countries and regions can now be extended to complete the 2019-2020 season. In addition, as part of this requirement, each country or region's professional league should declare the end date of the 2019-2020 season and should also be responsible for adjusting the registration window for new transfer players if necessary.

At the same time, the international transfer of the 2020-2021 season will start as early as June 1, 2020 (if the 2019-2020 National Club season has not yet been completed), and will run until May 2, 2021.

4, 2021 World Volleyball League (VNL)

2021 World Volleyball League will start on the second week of May 2021 (i.e. May 7 or 11, 2021), and its start date will be confirmed shortly after (after receiving the final confirmation of VNL TV broadcaster about its preferred start date), and end at the latest on June 27, 2021, when it is about a month left before the opening of the Tokyo Olympics. This timeline will ensure that volleyball players have time to prepare for the World League and the Olympics, stay healthy and physically, and show their best shape in these important events.

At the same time, the FIVF will continue to work closely with all parties to coordinate the detailed competition schedule of the 2021 World Volleyball League, while retaining Italy and China as the host countries of the finals.

5, 2021 continents volleyball championships

2021 volleyball championships of each continent should be held from August 19 to September 19, 2021. If necessary, the FIVF may delegate the authority to assess the qualification process for the competitions of each continent to the volleyball federations of each continent.

Following the approval of the new volleyball calendar, FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° said: "The decision approved by the FIVB Administrative Commission and the FIVB Executive Committee is crucial to maintaining the health of members of the entire volleyball family during this unprecedented time.We thank the Chairman of the Volleyball Federation of All Continentals, Volleyball Associations and Professional Leagues of all countries and regions for their support in the process of adjusting the competition calendar, which will help promote the strong return of our beloved volleyball sport.
