MediaTek launches a new mid-range chipset. Compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 920, the Dimensity 1080 brings higher performance, higher efficiency and more powerful camera support.
The most important change here is the camera function of the chip. The new Dimensity 1080 can use the Imagiq ISP to process image data from the sensor, up to 200MP (formerly 108MP). Some people mentioned hardware-accelerated HDR videos with up to 4K resolution, but that's not new to the 1080.
The performance of this 5G chipset has been slightly updated. The clock frequency of the two Cortex-A78 performance cores is 2.6GHz (up to 2.5GHz). The GPU remains unchanged Mali-G68, and the chipset is still built on the 6nm process. From a performance perspective, the benchmark score may not have a significant leap compared to the devices running the above chips.

MediaTek said that devices powered by Dimensity 1080 will start shipment in the fourth quarter of 2022.
