Preliminary investigation by the Fire Department found that the cause of the fire was not ruled out as sparks from welding work igniting volatile gases from paint solvents that caused the fire. On the 30th, a staff member of the Taichung City Fire Department told Nandu reporters that the specific cause of the fire was still under investigation, and the injured were still being treated in the hospital.

According to the Taichung City Fire Department, at about 19:36 on December 29, a fire broke out in a factory on Dongzhou Road, Fengyuan District, Taichung City. After investigation, it was found that Yasoda Co., Ltd. rented this factory building as a warehouse. Nine employees of the company have been here to tidy up the factory building in recent days. On the evening of the 29th, nine people were applying anti-slip paint on the second floor. Halfway through the construction, a fire suddenly broke out. Five people escaped from the fire first. When the fire fighters arrived at the scene, the four people trapped in the fire showed no signs of life. After emergency medical treatment, all four people were pronounced dead, and two other injured were sent to the hospital for rescue.
