Laoma was called

Laoma, known as "Laomaqu" in ancient times. It is said that Emperor Zhaolie of the Han Dynasty Liu Bei stationed troops in the Bajiao Temple and Liu Zhang were separated, and Liu Zhang decided Fujiang flooded Liu Bei's army, Zhang Fei led his troops to retreat through this place. Because the water was so strong that his horse could not cross the canal, Zhang Fei was impatient and his horse could not cross the canal. Later generations called this place "Laomaqu", and gradually a settlement was formed and a market was established. At the end of 2019, Santai County merged its townships and towns, merging the three towns of Laoma, Mileage and Guanghui to establish a new Laoma Town, with the town’s headquarters being Laomaqu.

At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, No. 28 Township was established in Santai County, and Laomaqu was the residence of Fangri Township on the East Road; Guanghui was called Huilongchang at that time, and it was under the jurisdiction of Zhenshui Township on the North Road (in Gaoyankan, today Gaoyan Township).

In the 9th year of the Republic of China, the Sichuan War broke out one after another. All localities strengthened their team training organizations, and set up team training offices for going to and from the countryside. Fangri Township was divided into two parts, Fangri Shangxiang was located in Laomaqu, and Fangri Xiangxiang was located in Huayuanhe (today's Huayuan Town); while Zhenshui Township was also divided into two parts, Zhenshui Township was located in Gaochangkan, and Zhenshui Xiangxiang was located in Huilongchang.

In the 14th year of the Republic of China, Tuanlian was renamed Tuanjia, and Laomaqu and Huilongchang were respectively set up as Tuanjia offices. In the 24th year of the Republic of China, the group was reorganized and established the Laoma Joint Insurance Company and the Huilongchang Joint Insurance Company.

In the 29th year of the Republic of China, the government of the Republic of China pursued the "new county system" and renamed Laoma and Huilongchang joint guarantees into Laoma Township and Huilongchang Township respectively.

In 1951, the land reform was completed and democratic government was established. Laoma Township and Huilongchang Township are still established.

In 1952, some village groups were separated from Laoma Township and Zunsheng Township (today's Zhengsheng Town) to establish Alliance Township (the predecessor of today's Milestone Township), which was canceled in 1955.

In October 1958, the Pegasus People's Commune was established in Laoma District. The commune's headquarters was moved from Laomaqu to Liujiaying, and administered 13 farming areas including Liuying, Laoma, Huilongchang, Jianshe, Zhongtai, Changle, Liuying, Anning, Anping (now Zhuanjiang), Lingxing, Suhe (now Qianfeng), Huayuan, and Baiyi (now Guangming).

In 1960, the original Alliance Township jurisdiction was restored and the Mileage People's Commune was established, named after the homophonic name of Licunba (also known as Licunba) within the territory.

In 1961, each farming area under the jurisdiction of the original Pegasus Commune established separate communes, and Laoma Commune and Huilong Commune were restored.

In July 1967, during the Cultural Revolution, Laoma was changed to Hongwei Commune and Huilong was changed to Guanghui Commune.

In October 1981, during the census of place names, Hongwei was renamed Laoma Commune due to the same name, which belongs to Liuying District.

In March 1984, the commune system was abolished and reestablished as Laoma Township, Guanghui Township and Milestone Township.

In September 1992, the district was withdrawn and merged with the township to build a town, Guanghui was merged into to build the town , Mileage was merged into Liuying Town, and Laomadan was established as Laoma Township.

In 1995, the Guanghui demarcation list was set to Guanghui Town, and the Mileage demarcation list was set to Milestone Township.

In December 2017, Laoma and Milestones were removed from their villages and established towns respectively to establish Laoma Town and Milestone Town.

In December 2019, the three towns of Laoma, Guanghui and Milestone merged to establish Laoma Town.
