How important is TSMC to Taiwan?
On February 21, 1987, the famous entrepreneur Zhang Zhongmou founded the world's first professional OEM company - Taiwan Integrated Circuit Manufacturing Company, which is the well-known TSMC today, in the Hsinchu Science Park in Taiwan. Its establishment pioneered the wafer foundry business for the first time, ending the era when semiconductor companies had to bear the high cost of building buildings themselves. Now, after 35 years of development, TSMC has developed into a global semiconductor industry giant that runs side by side with Intel and Samsung, with a total market value of US$430 billion.
TSMC's success also drove Taiwan's development. Currently, TSMC has a total number of employees of about 48,000, with an average annual revenue of more than US$30 billion. For Taiwan, the prosperity of semiconductor is directly related to the quality of economic development on the island. As of 2021, the output value of semiconductor has accounted for about 20% of Taiwan's total manufacturing output value, and TSMC, as a leader in the semiconductor industry, plays a role naturally self-evident.
TSMC is the pillar of Taiwan's economy. This global semiconductor giant, known as the "Sanctuary of Island Protection" by Taiwanese people, has driven the development of Taiwan's entire technology industry chain with its own strength and created countless jobs for the people on the island. It is no exaggeration to say that if TSMC fell, the economy in Taiwan will fall into recession or even collapse.
However, the recent operations of the United States are pushing Taiwan's economy to the brink of collapse. According to Taiwanese media reports, starting from November 1, a large number of TSMC engineers have been asked to move to a wafer factory in Arizona, USA. These engineers will bring their families and charter flights in 6 shifts. Each charter flight will have about 100 to 120 engineers. In other words, these 6 shifts dispatched by the United States will transport about TSMC to about 1,000 engineers.
It is worth noting that the US not only transported TSMC engineers this time, but also brought their families to the United States to issue them green cards. This is a permanent relocation. Those who take the American flight will basically not return to Taiwan, but will stay in the United States to "build factories." The United States will then count and pack the relevant technical equipment and move it away, leaving only a bunch of empty factories in Taiwan.
TSMC is going to become "MCC"
The hard work of 35 years of hard work was cruelly harvested by the United States. TSMC is facing the danger of becoming "MCC".
TSMC leader Zhang Zhongmou said that TSMC has set up a 5nm process processing plant in the United States, but will also establish a 3nm process processing plant in the second phase of the plan. This is the world's most advanced chip production process and is also TSMC's unique skill. But now that the factory is already in the United States, it is impossible for the technology not to be taken away by the United States.
During the strategic game between China and the United States, the United States took ruthless measures to "de-Taiwanize" TSMC and transported away a large number of top engineers, in order to completely remove TSMC's talents, equipment and technology, and squeeze out all the available value of TSMC, and then destroy the high-tech industry on Taiwan's island.
This is the "destroyment of Taiwan" plan by the Biden administration. TSMC is no longer able to be immune to it. It is being pushed to the forefront of the Sino-US game and becoming a victim.
As the strength of China and the United States increases and decreases, the global strategic pattern is gradually forming. Today, the United States has no confidence to "fight head-on" with China in the Taiwan Strait, and other countries and Asian countries no longer want to cater to the US's win-win situation, causing the "encirclement" strategy that American politicians imagine to be bankrupt.
The outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis also made the United States realize that there will not be many countries firmly standing with it. Therefore, the United States simply changed its strategy and launched an "asymmetric combat" with the Taiwan authorities, fooled the DPP to buy American weapons, advocated its development of so-called "asymmetric combat power", and purchased a batch of mobile equipment from the United States, including anti-ship missiles and air defense system , to harass the army that may attack Taiwan, claiming that it would turn Taiwan into a "heedgehog".
But the so-called "asymmetric strategy" of the United States is simply a joke, and it is essentially to drain Taiwan's utilization value. It is no exaggeration to describe the weapons sold by the United States to Taiwan as "broken iron". In 2018, a batch of F16 fighter jets sold by the United States in Taiwan were found to have metal rust in the pipeline. From 2017 to 2021, among the weapons illegally sold to Taiwan by the United States, there were 35 accidents caused by equipment failure, causing losses of about US$670,000 to Taiwan.
DPP has become the "abandoned son" of the United States
Today's DPP authorities have also gradually become the abandoned son of Washington .
For the United States, the survival status of the people on Taiwan’s island does not need to be considered by the United States at all. The United States will only consider its own interests. As long as it has value in Taiwan, whether it is equipment or talents, it may be taken away by the United States in the future by various means, and the relocation cost will still be borne by Taiwan itself.
When the day comes to squeeze out Taiwan's industry, the United States will abandon the extreme political forces on the island represented by the DPP without hesitation. At that time, the United States is likely to proactively detonate the Taiwan Strait crisis. The ultimate goal of the United States is to interrupt and contain China's development momentum and do everything possible to maintain the existing hegemony of the United States. Therefore, any country that may surpass the United States in terms of strength will become the target of the United States' heavy blow. Taiwan's chip foundry industry is leading the world, and the United States has long been coveting and always wants to take it for itself. As for whether the chip foundry that has been moved to the United States can be put into production smoothly, it is not within the scope of the United States. As long as it can destroy the advanced productivity of in other regions and maintain the hegemony and leading position of the United States, the United States will not hesitate to use any means, even war.
But fortunately, the people on Taiwan have increasingly seen the ugly face of the United States and are constantly resisting and eliminating the erosion of the United States on Taiwan through practical actions. On November 26, in the 2022 "nine-in-one" election for grassroots public officials in Taiwan, the DPP won only 5 seats among the 21 elected county and city mayors, far lower than 13 seats in the Kuomintang. At the same time, the so-called "18-year-old civil rights amendment referendum" manipulated by the DPP did not reach the minimum threshold and ended in failure. Tsai Ing-wen also resigned as chairman of the DPP to show her responsibility for the DPP's disastrous defeat in this election.
It can be said that this is a strong response and fight back from the Democratic Progressive Party’s “resistance of unification with force” and “anti-China and China” in recent years, reflecting the strong dissatisfaction of the people on the island with the cross-strait relations, epidemic prevention policies and self-respecting foreign countries during the Tsai Ing-wen administration’s administration. Cooperating with the United States' "using Taiwan to control China", it has caused complaints on the island of Taiwan. At the same time, the DPP's failure in 's "nine-in-one" election is also a strong warning to the United States for sacrificing Taiwan to provoke the crisis in the Taiwan Strait. Facts have long proved that compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait hope to achieve peaceful reunification, which has become the greatest common divisor for compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. External forces have no say or dominant power on the major issue of the future of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
There is no doubt that what the people on the Taiwan island are looking forward to is peace, stability and prosperity, while what the United States does is to harm the interests of the people on the Taiwan island without any mercy. Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait join hands to promote the historical process of cross-strait reunification. This is a historical necessity and the general trend of the development of cross-strait relations. The United States' conspiracy to try to play the "Taiwan card" will not succeed.
