According to CCTV News client, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference on June 26, and the spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council An Fengshan answered reporters' questions on current hot topics on the cross-strait.
Reporter: What progress has been made in promoting the realization of the "small four connections" and "all connections" between Kinmen Matsu and Fujian coastal areas? Thanks.
A New Fengshan, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council: We will continue to fully implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi’s important speech, adhere to the people-centered development philosophy, further study and introduce new measures, and continuously deepen the economic and social integration development of cross-straits. We hope that compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait will work together to eliminate obstacles, achieve "all communications" between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait as soon as possible, and continuously improve the interests and well-being of compatriots.
Regarding subsequent water, electricity, ventilation and bridge opening, relevant parties in mainland China and Fujian Province have been actively carrying out work. What we can do is actively and pragmatically advance, and phased progress has been made. In terms of water supply to Mazu, there was a precedent for emergency water supply in Fujian during the Mazu water shortage in 2002. As long as Mazu has demand, we can supply water at any time. In terms of power supply, the head of State Grid Fujian Company has publicly explained the plan to connect power with Jinma and made technical preparations to achieve safe, stable and environmentally friendly power supply. In terms of ventilation, relevant enterprises on both sides of the Taiwan Strait have conducted preliminary communication and docking, and the two solutions for shipping water supply and pipeline water supply have been initially formed. In terms of bridge connection, mainland experts and enterprises have conducted in-depth research, and relevant plans are being promoted. As long as the conditions are met, cross-strait enterprises and industry associations can accelerate the implementation of things that are tangible benefits for these compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait through further docking and negotiation.
General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the commemoration meeting of the 40th anniversary of the publication of the "Message to Compatriots in Taiwan" on January 2 this year pointed out that we hope to be close to each other. The Chinese should help the Chinese. The cross-strait should be connected as much as possible, so as to improve smooth economic and trade cooperation, infrastructure connectivity, energy and resource interconnection and industry standards. We can take the lead in realizing water, electricity, ventilation and bridge access to Kinmen, Mazu and Fujian coastal areas.
The people of Kinmen and Mazu have long hoped that the mainland will help solve the difficulties such as water and electricity shortage, and have expressed their demands on ventilation and bridges many times. Our attitude is very clear. For these needs, the mainland is willing to make every effort to create opportunities and provide conditions for them to achieve greater and better development. In August last year, Fujian's water supply project to Kinmen overcame many difficulties and achieved formal water supply. So far, Fujian has supplied more than 3 million tons of water steadily to Kinmen, solving the water use difficulties that Kinmen villagers have long faced.
