Cambodia Thmey Thmey Daily said on September 7 from the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture that Cambodia exported about 876,531 tons of cashew in the first eight months of 2021, an increase of about 350% over the same period in 2020.
According to a reporter from Vietnam News Agency in Phnom Penh, Cambodian Minister of Agriculture Veng Sakhon said that 99% of the country's cashews are exported to Vietnam, equivalent to nearly 870,000 tons.
The increase in cashew exports in Cambodia in 2021 is the increase in the planting area of cashew growers, coupled with the stocks exported abroad in 2020.
According to statistics from the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, in the first eight months of this year, other major markets for Cambodia's cashew exports include China (3639 tons) and Thailand (3230 tons).
Mr. Uon Silot, chairman of the Cambodian Casino Association, said that the Vietnamese Casino Association has collected cashews from the Cambodian Casino Association to process and supply them to the international market.
Due to strong demand, the price of cashew nuts in Cambodia is slightly higher this year, at 4,000 riel/kg (about 6.4 RMB), compared with 3,500 riel/kg (about 5.6 RMB) in 2020.
Currently, there are 10 provinces in Cambodia with more than 500,000 cashew nut plantations of , of which 4 provinces have the largest cashew nut plantation area, including pound Kampong Thom (Khêt Kampong Thom) about 90,959 hectares, pound Kampong Thom (Kratie) about 47,858 hectares, Ratanakiri ( Ratanakiri ) about 30,459 hectares and pound Cham ( Kampong Cham).
