At the end of last month, after ten years of expectations from Kinmen people, the Kinmen Bridge connecting the large and small Kinmen was finally opened to traffic. Before the bridge was built, the exchange between Kinmen and Kinmen was carried out by ferry. If it encountered typhoon or heavy rain, the flight would be suspended, which would greatly affect normal life. Now that the Kinmen Bridge is completed, it is only a five-minute drive between the Kinmen Gate and the Kinmen Gate, which greatly facilitates the exchange between the Kinmen Gate and the Kinmen Gate.
, and at the beginning of the design, the needs of various different groups of people were fully considered. Therefore, in addition to the motor vehicle lanes, the Kinmen Bridge also added non-motor vehicle lanes and pedestrian trails, providing great convenience for tourists.
However, this is only the first step that the people of Kinmen conceived. They have a greater vision, which is to build a cross-sea bridge between Kinmen and Xiamen to better play a role in promoting cross-strait exchanges and better drive the emergency development of Kinmen.
Ideals are full, reality is skinny. The people of Kinmen have been waiting for the opening of the Kinmen Bridge for thirty years. How long does it take to wait to see the opening of the Xiamen Bridge?
In fact, the mainland has already put the construction of Xiamen-Jin Bridge on the relevant agenda, but the DPP authorities have repeatedly obstructed it, so that until now, Xiamen-Jin Bridge is still just an idea.
Kinmen's geographical location is in a very delicate situation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. In the administrative divisions released by the mainland, Kinmen belongs to Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, and is only eight kilometers away from Xiamen, but is more than 200 kilometers away from Taiwan's main island.
Because the distance between the two places is close, the exchanges between Xiamen and Jin Dynasty are quite close. For example, electricity, tap water, vegetables and other daily necessities and necessities rely on the supply of mainland China to a certain extent, because compared with Taiwan, the cost of introducing Kinmen from the mainland is much lower than that from Taiwan.
Take the drinking water that we usually cannot live without every day. Before Fujian supplies water to Kinmen, the water cost per ton of tap water in Kinmen was NT$358.6/ton (RMB 13.27/ton), which is nearly 20% to 30% higher than the island of Taiwan.
Due to the limitations of Kinmen's geographical environment, water shortage often occurs. As early as the beginning of this century, the mainland specially asked the DPP authorities at that time whether water can be directly supplied to Kinmen from Fujian to change the problem of difficulty for Kinmen people to draw water.
Results The DPP authorities at that time chose to avoid this issue until 2013. After the unremitting efforts of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, they finally got a satisfactory result on this issue.
At the time of 10 a.m. on August 5, 2018, the tap water supply from Jinjiang, Fujian, which plagued the people of Kinmen for decades, was finally further solved with the joint efforts of relevant departments on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
While the overall strength of the mainland is constantly improving, more and more Taiwanese people, especially young people, have come to the mainland to study, live and work. According to incomplete statistics, as of the beginning of 2022, more than 2 million Taiwanese have worked and lived in the mainland.
According to statistics from the Taiwan Tourism Administration, before January 2020, mainland tourists can bring more than NT$400 million in sightseeing output value to Kinmen every month. On average, each mainland tourists who come to Kinmen can bring NT$16,000 in consumption to Kinmen.
. After Kinmen County tourism and economic departments, the annual consumption of mainland tourists in Kinmen is as high as NT$13 billion, which is roughly equal to Kinmen's fiscal revenue in that year.
From the above, we can analyze that the prosperity of Kinmen's economy is inseparable from the contribution of the mainland, so the people of Kinmen have always hoped to build a cross-sea bridge connecting Kinmen and Xiamen, which not only facilitates mainland tourists to visit, but also makes it more convenient for Kinmen people to study, work and see a doctor in Xiamen.
Therefore, the DPP authorities should follow the Kinmen public opinion and agree to the construction of the Xiamen Bridge. Do not block the wealth of the Kinmen people.
