1. The 20-hour limit for off-campus working hours is lifted

From November 15, 2022 to December 31, 2023, international students holding Canadian study permits will be allowed to work off-campus for more than 20 hours a week during class.

This move is to improve the labor shortage problem in Canadian society. International students who hold school visas in the past cannot work more than 20 hours a week during their studies, and can only work full-time during holidays.

Canadian Immigration Minister Feraze pointed out that the measure will allow more than 500,000 eligible international students who are already studying in Canada and have the potential to work more time.

According to research by the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE), most international students say they are interested in staying in Canada as permanent residents after completing their studies.

Statistics Canada research shows that international students who continue to obtain permanent residence tend to quickly integrate into the Canadian labor market due to factors such as work and study experience in Canada and English and/or French proficiency.

2. Domestic study visa renewal adopts AI assistance, accelerates processing of automatic pass-through

In the future, Canada's domestic study visa renewal will adopt AI assistance system, just like the current tourist visa application. There are two benefits of using AI processing: fast speed and high pass rate.

AI system will automatically pass the normal renewal application and will not automatically refuse it. It will only be selected for the visa officer to review when encountering complex student visa applications.

This will reduce the time for international students to wait for renewal and focus on study and work.
