Civil Aviation Resources Network July 12, 2022: The American Airlines Pilot Association (ALPA) once again publicly claimed that there is no shortage of pilots in the United States. According to data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a total of 8,402 pilots have obtained an Air Transport Pilot (ATP) license and a multi-engine landing (MEL) license in the past twelve months.
According to the infographic released by ALPA, FAA data shows that in the past twelve months, the number of pilots who have obtained certificates has far exceeded 6,664 in 2019, and there is no sign of slowing down.
In the words of current ALPA Chairman Joe DePete in the statement on June 7, "It is bad to distort the facts about available pilots. But distorting the facts and then trying to overturn safety regulations that have saved 99.8% of passenger deaths from airlines since its enactment is reprehensible. And that is exactly what some airlines and their lobbyists do."
