"Itaewon Murder"
This is a movie adapted from real Korean events
Itaewon Murder is the four unsolved strange cases in South Korea. The most special thing is that the murderer is right in front of you, but he cannot be convicted.
Then you will ask: Why can't you be convicted? Who is the murderer?
Itaewon murder case was not ordinary identities
000 pm on April 8, 1997, a tragedy occurred in the toilet of a burger shop in Itaewon, which was terrible. A Korean college student was stabbed 9 times. The police were dead when they arrived. The victim's family background was average, so even if there was an injustice, the South Korean authorities might die in vain.
"Itaewon" is a very special place. It is close to the US military base in South Korea. People who often move around are basically the families of the US military. Most of them are mixed-race children in South Korea and the two suspects have certain backgrounds, so I won't disclose them here.
A suspect is a mixed-race American Korean-American: Pearson, his father is a US military stationed in South Korea, so he is a family member of the US military. The government has certain protection privileges for him. Coupled with the intervention of the US military, and he does not speak Korean, the local police have many difficulties in solving the case, and it is basically impossible to solve the case.
Another AJ is from Korean American, and his father has a strong background.
The crime scene was completely destroyed by the clerk before the police checked, which resulted in the police being able to collect some evidence and a very small number of photos, so the next step was to rely on the testimony of the two suspects to investigate.
Both of them accused the other party of the murderer
After the incident, the 18-year-old American suspect Pearson was arrested by the US military. The US military handed him over to South Korea in accordance with regulations, but also blocked the investigation and sent someone to reiterate the rights of the suspect, which basically constitutes obstruction of the review. .
During the investigation, Pearson insisted that he did not kill anyone, and at the same time revealed to the prosecutor that in addition to him and the victim, there was also a man named AJ at the scene that night.
Later, AJ was accompanied by his father to South Korea from the United States. AJ said as a witness that Pearson killed someone.
In the subsequent investigation of Pearson, Pearson told the opposite case, and Pearson said that AJ attacked and killed people.
In this battle to chase the truth, the two suspects said to each other that the other was the murderer and they were just watching. Then who is they lying? Who is the murderer, Pearson or AJ?
The case is intricate, and both of them are able to get away with it.
The US investigation report shows that the murderer was Pearson, so they handed over Pearson to South Korea. According to the investigation by Prosecutor Park of South Korea, it is more likely that AJ is the murderer in this case
May 1997 Seoul District Court 22 Branch held a trial of the case. All suspects participated in the court, and Pearson was prosecuted for "being a fatal weapon and destroying evidence."
However, at the time of trial, another black classmate pointed out that it was AJ who was the murderer. The case became even more confusing as soon as this matter was made.
It was not until October 13, 1997 that the Seoul District Court announced the sentence that AJ was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
But things will never end there. AJ's father used government relations to find a person who could determine the case.
Plot reversal: On April 30, 1998, the Itaewon murder case was transferred to Supreme Court . The Supreme Court overturned the original judgment on the grounds that there was insufficient evidence, and AJ was released in court.
However, since AJ has received a guilty verdict, according to the principle of "no matter is taken care of" stipulated by South Korean law, the prosecution decided not to prosecute him and let him prove Pearson as a witness. The prosecution filed a lawsuit against AJ on suspicion of a separate crime 18 years ago, missing Pearson, and thus was criticized.
Pearson kept reiterating his original claim when he met his lawyer, saying, "AJ had just finished taking drugs and committed a crime in a trance. Please pray for me, I want to learn Korean." Lawyer Wu Bingzhou said: "I have told him many times that if someone is killed, I should apologize to the victim's family, but Patterson insists that 'there is absolutely no killing'."
The only suspects in this case, AJ and Pearson, and their testimony were false to varying degrees, and both of them had extraordinary backgrounds. In the end, due to various complex factors, the two murderers were all at large in the Itaewon murder case.
In September 2015, 16 years later, Pearson was escorted back to South Korea and was tried by the Korean judicial authorities.
The first and second instance judgments department believed that Pearson still did not know how to reflect and shifted the blame to the accomplice, so he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
But because the fact that the defendant killed the victim has been fully proved, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison as the original judgment.
The murder case that shocked South Korea ended here, and whoever is right or wrong is already a piaoyan.
