There is an asteroid in the sky. It was permanently named "Min Enze Star" in 2011, shining in the vast universe. Min Enze is the founder of my country's oil refining catalytic application science, a pioneer of independent innovation in petrochemical technology, and a pioneer of green chemistry. He is an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and former chief engineer of the Sinopec Petrochemical Sciences Research Institute. He won the first prize of National Technology Invention Award in 2005 and the highest national science and technology award in in 2007.

"For decades, I have done three types of work: the first is to meet the urgent needs of national defense and the urgent needs of refinery construction; the second is to help petrochemical enterprises get out of difficulties and turn losses into profits; the third is basic, strategic and long-term scientific and technological research and development." This is Academician Min Enze's summary of his career during his lifetime.

In 1946, Min Enze graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering of Central University and obtained his Ph.D. in 1951 from the Department of Chemical Engineering of Ohio State University in the United States. In 1955, Min Enze and his wife gave up their generous living treatment abroad and returned to the new China through Hong Kong to serve the country with knowledge.

In the early days of the founding of New China, my country's petroleum refining industry foundation was very weak. Faced with foreign technological blockade, Min Enze invented a method to control surface tension to solve the crushing of small pellet catalyst , etc., and participated in the design and trial operation of the catalyst factory, ensuring the supply of defense aviation gasoline.

Since the 1980s, Min Enze has proposed the insight that "new catalytic materials are the source of creation and invention of new catalysts and new processes, new reaction projects are the only way to invent new processes, and the integration of new catalytic materials and new reaction projects often brings integrated innovation." He presided over the guidance of new catalytic materials such as new molecular sieves and amorphous alloys, and carried out guiding basic research in new reaction engineering fields such as magnetically stable fluidized beds and suspended catalytic distillation, and made many major breakthroughs.

In April 1980, Min Enze joined the Communist Party of China and was elected as a member of the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the same year; in 1993, he was elected as an academician of the Academy of Sciences in the developing countries, and in 1994, he was elected as the first batch of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, ; in 1995, he won the first "He Liang He Li Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award".

At the end of the 20th century, Min Enze, who was nearly 80 years old, had a far-sighted vision and advocated the development of green chemistry and chemical industry. The "Environmentally Friendly Petrochemical Catalytic Chemistry and Reaction Engineering" project he presided over has promoted the extensive development of green chemistry research in my country. Entering the 21st century, Min Enze successfully developed the "near-critical alcoholylation " new production process of biodiesel , and cooperated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences to carry out the "development of complete set of microalgae biodiesel technology".

Min Enze not only achieved many pioneering and major innovative achievements, but also advocated, practiced and disseminator of the scientific spirit. He has been paying close attention to the dynamics and trends of world petrochemical technology for decades, and has written monographs based on his true feelings and experiences and lessons from his many years of scientific and technological life, inspiring the younger generation to innovate and contribute. He was indifferent to fame and fortune, and spent more than 5 million yuan in savings to establish the "Minenze Energy and Chemical Award" and a number of scholarships to encourage and cultivate young people.
