According to previous media reports, Jiang Bingkun was suddenly unconscious and was sent to Mackay Hospital for emergency treatment at the restaurant of Jinghua Hotel, Zhongshan District, Taipei City on the evening of the 8th. It was diagnosed as aortic dissection, causing myocardial infarction. The upper lobular membrane was immediately connected to maintain signs of life that night and was treated with surgery.
After 6 hours of emergency surgery, Jiang Bingkun was transferred to the ICU for observation. Doctors said that it is a critical period within 72 hours after the operation. At 6:18 p.m. tonight, someone came out to inform former chairman of China National Petroleum Corporation that Jiang Bingkun was in poor condition and was being extubated. At the same time, the hospital also confirmed that Jiang Bingkun is being extubated, but details are yet to be announced by the hospital.
Jiang Bingkun was born in Nantou County, Taiwan Province in 1932, and his ancestral home is Fujian. He is currently the president of the Taipei University Alumni Association. He served as Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang and Chairman of the Taiwan Straits Exchange Foundation. During his tenure as chairman of the Straits Foundation, the leaders of the Two Sessions held eight talks and signed agreements including the "Cross-Strait Agreement on Mainland Residents' Tourism to Taiwan" and the "Cross-Strait Framework Agreement on Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation (ECFA).
Among them, from June 12 to 14, 2008, the Association for Distribution and the Straits Foundation resumed institutionalized consultations that had been interrupted for 9 years based on the " 1992 Consensus ". Chen Yunlin, president of the Association for Discipline Inspection and Development, and Jiang Bingkun signed the " Cross-Strait Bundle Opportunity Discussion on the Cross-Strait Bundle Opportunity Discussion " and "Two-Strait Agreement on Mainland Residents' Travel to Taiwan" in Beijing. The first wave of mainland tourists arrived in Taiwan on July 4, 2008.
From November 3 to 7, 2008, Chen Yunlin led a delegation to visit Taiwan. The second talks of leaders of the two sessions were held in Taipei, and the "Cross-Strait Air Transport Agreement", "Cross-Strait Maritime Agreement", "Cross-Strait Postal Agreement" and "Cross-Strait Food Safety Agreement". As a result, the two sides of the Taiwan Strait have basically achieved direct "three connections" (postage, navigation, and trade).
From April 25 to 26, 2009, the third meeting of leaders of the two sessions was held in Nanjing, and the " Cross-Strait Air Transport Supplementary Agreement", "Cross-Strait Financial Cooperation Agreement", "Cross-Strait Joint Crime and Judicial Mutual Assistance Agreement", and reached a consensus on principles on mainland enterprises' investment in Taiwan. The two sides of the Taiwan Strait have achieved comprehensive and direct "three links".
From June 29 to 30, 2010, the fifth meeting of leaders of the two sessions was held in Chongqing, and the "Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement" (ECFA) and the "Cross-Strait Intellectual Property Protection Cooperation Agreement".
After the Tsai Ing-wen administration took office in 2016, Jiang Bingkun, former chairman of the Taiwan Straits Foundation, once made it clear that the "1992 Consensus" is very important to both sides of the Taiwan Straits. The platform of the Straits Foundation and the Association for the Taiwan Straits is an iron bridge across the Taiwan Straits. The "1992 Consensus" is the piers of the iron bridge. "The piers are gone and the platforms are gone, which is today's dilemma."
In addition, Jiang Bingkun also created several "firsts" on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Among them, in March 2005, Jiang Bingkun, then Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang, led a visiting delegation to the mainland. This was the first time since 1949 that the Kuomintang officially formed a group to the mainland after 56 years.
