The passenger plane of the accident was Dragon Airlines flight KA451 from Kaohsiung to Hong Kong. On April 8, a netizen broke the news on Weibo that the KA451 flight that took off that morning encountered an emergency shortly after the departure, and the plane was spinning in the air, and the specific reason was unknown.
Cathay Dragon Airlines is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific. According to Taiwan's "Dongsen News Network", the engine made a strange sound just after flight KA451 took off, and witnesses said it was the right engine that caught fire.
According to Taiwan's United Daily News, the Kaohsiung Air Station tower reported that after taking off at 8:02, the right engine of KA451 was smoking, and the plane hovered for a while and then returned to Kaohsiung Xiaogang Airport and landed safely at 8:31.
Kaohsiung Aviation Station stated that flight KA451 carries 317 passengers, and the reason for the engine's smoke remains to be determined, and it is suspected to be a collision with a bird.
