At last year's Chongqing China Motorcycle Expo, Zongshen ( Sai Kelong ) unveiled a number of new models, one of which was the Lindao Road dual-purpose vehicle 250X (Desert Fox) caught my attention.
For me, who has been interested in playing through the road for a long time, when I saw this car, my eyes suddenly shone. Isn’t this the car I have been looking for? It is reported that this car will be officially released this month.
For this car that meets my requirements in the future, I have the following standards.
first, domestic first-tier manufacturers produce and quality control services are guaranteed.
second, displacement is about 250cc, preferably air-cooled engine (personal preference), simple structure and good reliability, and low maintenance cost.
3, there is a front and back ABS that can be closed.
fourth, preferably a professional-grade off-road vehicle with 21 inches and 18 inches respectively, with reasonable control of vehicle weight and seat height.
Fifth, the fuel tank is as large as possible, and the range of range can exceed 350KM.

First look at the data of Zongshen 250X (some of them have been changed later).

First of all, Zongshen is a domestic first-tier manufacturer, and 250X meets my requirements.
Secondly, the 250X is equipped with Zongshen's single-cylinder air-cooled 250cc displacement engine - PR250, with an actual displacement of 249cc, a maximum power of 14KW/8000 rpm, and a maximum torque of 18NM/6000 rpm. The book data is acceptable, which is stronger than the CB223 whiteboard module.
and has an ABS system that can be shut down before and after.
Then the diameters of the front and rear wheels are professional-level 21 inches and 18 inches, and the big feet have a stronger ability to overcome obstacles.
car weighs 145KG (this is considered a reasonable weight in the Lindao Off-road Vehicle), and the seat height is only 870mm. It is expected that my height can be touched on the ground with one foot, which is crucial, otherwise it will be embarrassing when waiting for the traffic light.
Another 12-liter fuel tank is roughly combined with the PR250 engine's fuel consumption standard on RA2 - about three liters per 100 kilometers. Theoretically, the range of the cruising distance should not be less than 350KM, which meets my requirements.
also has the reasonable price. Although the final price has not been officially announced yet, it is rumored that the final price of the 250X is 12,980 yuan. If it is this price, I feel quite competitive. However, the same engine used by the Saikelong RA2 is priced at 14,980 yuan, so whether the online price of the 250X is true or false remains to be verified on the date of release. However, no matter what, if compared with the other Lindao Road dual-purpose vehicles with a displacement of 250cc, as long as the price does not exceed 14,980 yuan, this price is still very good.
Finally, the Zongshen 250X car can be registered normally nationwide, including in Beijing and other regions. This is more attractive than the National IV electric-jet off-road vehicles launched by some off-road vehicle manufacturers. You should know that many of the latter models claim to be registered, but in fact there are restrictions and not nationwide.
So on the surface, this Desert Fox 250X is exactly in line with all my expectations for a Lindao Road dual-purpose vehicle.
So what are the models that can be bought in China with similar positioning as the 250X?
First of all, we have to mention the NK150 of Haojue . This car is the same as the 250X positioning, and is also a dual-purpose off-road vehicle. It can be used on the road and can also walk on the forest road. Quality control Haojue's car is safe to buy with your eyes closed. However, the displacement of 150cc is too small, and this problem is not big when walking on the forest road, but don't forget that this car still has to go on the road. It's hard to exceed the car, so it won't be considered and ruled out.
New Continent Honda 's CRF190L also has a certain competitive relationship with the Zongshen 250X. Of course, the CRF190L is more inclined to motorcycle travel purposes. I tested this car last year. It has good riding comfort, low fuel consumption, and has considerable off-road capabilities. However, the engine displacement did not meet my requirements, and the rear wheels do not have ABS (the front wheel single-wheel non-closed ABS), and the price is a little higher (17,800), so it is still ruled out.
Wuji's 300GY is also a car worth considering. I have also tested this car and the overall feeling is still OK. There are ABSs that can be turned off on the front and rear wheels, but the price has reached 23,600, which is far beyond my budget range. Therefore, after weighing it over and over again, I decided to give up.
Of course, we cannot forget the imported Kawasaki KLX230, the Lindao Road dual-purpose vehicle with a single-cylinder air-cooled engine, the price is 37,900 yuan, and it won’t be considered, and the cost-effectiveness is too poor.
From this, Zongshen's 250X is more and more fragrant as it looks, and I'm waiting for it to be officially launched.
However, there is also a design that makes people unable to understand.
independent suspension is not a multi-link structure. This design makes me puzzled. A dual-purpose vehicle that takes into account the passage of Lindao, actually directly connects the rear suspension to the swingarm. What is this idea!
Look at the above models. Except for Haojue's NK150, the others are multi-link rear suspension designs.
rear independent suspension adopts a multi-link structure, which is a common design for ordinary off-road vehicles, ADVs and even many street cars and RVs. The shock filtering effect is softer. When used in off-road uses, it can also significantly increase the buffer stroke of the rear suspension, which is conducive to riders to drive more intensely without worrying about the bottoming after the rear suspension lands. This is the original intention of the rear suspension adopting a multi-link design. The purpose of the 250X is obviously to take into account the use scenarios such as forest road crossing. Will the rear shock absorber be like this?
Does this mean that Zongshen’s designers believe that Xiaofei does not need to play Lindao time travel?
If the two wheels cannot leave the ground at all, then the fun is much worse. For those who pursue a certain amount of off-road fun, I think this design is worth discussing.
If you want to know how Zongshen’s designers understand this issue, we have to start with how the designers position this dual-purpose vehicle.
We will mention Haojue's NK150 again here, because from the design point of view, the two cars have too many similarities.
NK150 also does not adopt the multi-link design commonly used in Lindao Off-road Vehicles. The rear independent suspension is also directly connected to the swingarm. The tires do not use exaggerated deep-tooth off-road tires, but tires that take into account the road's near-all-terrain conditions. This shows that the NK150 did not position the NK150 as a professional off-road vehicle at the beginning. It does have the ability to partially overcome bad roads. , but it pursues time travel, not off-road, which is the difference from professional off-road vehicles. . Similar examples include Kawasaki's KLX230. It can be seen from the official promotional pictures that Kawasaki does not encourage riders to drive this car to make too intense off-road methods, such as leaps and other difficult actions, but instead experiences fun in wild environments such as Lindao River Beach as possible through time travel.
Therefore, the Zongshen Desert Fox 250X can be regarded as the enhanced version of NK150. First of all, the power is much larger. In addition, the front and rear tire diameters (21/18) and professional large-tooth off-road tires are more suitable for crossing, and the ground clearance is also higher (265mm). Playing through the forest road should be more fun, but riders are also not encouraged to ride this bike to play various difficult movements, such as double peak jumping, big flying, etc., which is beyond his ability.
Understand this point, you can understand why Zongshen’s designer did not equip the 250X with a multi-link structure. Overall, although this car looks quite professional off-road style, it actually still has to take into account the road driving in most cases. If you want to use it to drive the car crazy, it is better to check out other professional cars.
