at the beginning:
Everyone, everyone, in their place, you will see the article with the most stress in my career.
Actually, I don’t know how to write the beginning. The second reason is that my time watching football has only a very little overlap with Duncan ’s career. The first reason is that he is really great and too low-key. He doesn’t know where his achievements begin, and some of his stories are well-known. Some of them may not have even said them. So, first of all, my personal style will be stronger in this article, and due to my limited level, my goal is to present everyone with a Duncan that I admire and respect in my mind, rather than the full picture of this history's No. 1 power forward (who is not convinced). This paragraph of
is placed at the beginning in the final draft you have seen. In my document, I haven't written much of the main text when I wrote this paragraph, so I hope I can achieve my goal.
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— For fifty years, NBA has been changing, and insisting on team culture and stability has always been the tag of San Antonio Spurs . The key to showing these traits lies in generations of Spurs players. We finally finished pushing 49 of the top 50 prehistoric stars of the Silver and Black Army team. Today, he is here.
First place: Tim Duncan
Early experience
1-11-25, Timothy Theodore Duncan was born in Saint Croix, in the US Virgin Islands. His parents are both Anguilla immigrants, his father William Duncan is a bricklayer, and his mother Ione is a professional midwife. Tim has two sisters, Cheryl and Tricia, both swimmers. Tricia once played for the US Virgin Islands at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, and also had an older brother, Scott, who later became a film director and photographer.
Influenced by his sister, Duncan dreamed of becoming an Olympic-level swimmer when he was in school. Fortunately, he has both talent in this area and the support of his family. Duncan was very outstanding in the three events of 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle . His goal at that time was to be selected for the US national team and participate in the 1992 Olympics.
But his dream was forced to change the way after 1989. A hurricane called "Hugo" destroyed the only Olympic-scale swimming pool on the island. In order to persist in training, Duncan could only swim in the sea. In the end, his fear of sharks completely lost his enthusiasm for swimming. This is not the end. The day before his 14th birthday, Duncan's mother died of breast cancer , and he suffered another emotional blow. Before she died, she asked Duncan and his two sisters to promise her that they would all finish college, which largely explained that Duncan later refused to leave college early to enter the NBA, which is a later story.
Duncan never participated in a swimming competition again. With the encouragement of his brother-in-law, he turned to basketball. At first he had a hard time adapting to the game he thought "helped relieve pain". The athletic director of his school once said: "[Duncan] was very tall at the time, but he was also very out of place." But in the end he overcame his discomfort and became the leader of the Dunstan Episcopal High School team. His senior year averaged 25 points and attracted the attention of several universities, especially the basketball coach Dave Odom of Wake Forest University .
Odom became interested in Duncan, 16, after he allegedly tied with NBA star Alonzo Mourning in a 5v5 game. Odom was looking for a tall, strong player with the ability to protect the basket to join his team, but considering that the Virgin Islands' basketball level was not high at the time, he did not have much expectations for Duncan at the beginning. For most of the first meeting, Duncan looked at the coach opposite him blankly, which made Odom feel that he was not attentive, but soon, Odom understood that this was just Duncan's behavior. This young man was not only a talented athlete, but also could learn new things quickly. In the end, he threw an offer to Duncan on behalf of Wake Forest University, and Duncan eventually rejected the scholarship for other universities and joined the Wake Forest Demon Deacons men's basketball team.
College career
Before Duncan joined Wake Forest University, the team had already entered the semi-finals of 16 in the previous year's Crazy Three, but then the top scorer Rodney Rodgers left the team to enter the NBA. 1993-94 At the beginning of the NCAA season, coach Dave Odom considered letting Duncan watch for a while, but Duncan was forced to play after a player in the same position violated NCAA rules and eventually transferred to Michigan . He struggled for a while during the transition period, but over time, Duncan and teammate Randolph Childries eventually led the team to a record of 20 wins and 11 losses. In college, Duncan's style of play was simple and effective, combining a series of low-post movements, mid-range shooting and tough defensive skills. Off the court, Duncan pursued a degree in psychology and also studied courses in anthropology and Chinese literature.
NCAA1994-95 season, Duncan was soon considered a young player who was qualified to enter the NBA and has a promising prospect, along with Rashid Wallace and Jerry Starkhouse and others of the same class. Despite this, coupled with the NBA's plan to increase its rookie salary cap in 1996, Duncan was unwilling to give up his determination to stay in the team. He wanted to fulfill his promise to his mother - to obtain a college degree. In the next three years, Duncan repeated this script twice, was named NABC Defensive Player of the Year for three consecutive years, was named ACC Player of the Year from 1996 to 97, and was selected for the ACC Team One for three consecutive years.
In addition, during college, Duncan and Mark Leary co-authored a chapter in the social psychology book Aversive Interpersonal Behaviors, who is currently a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Duke University.
Two Tower period
996-97 season, at that time, David Robinson, the core of the Spurs, was absent from the entire season due to injury, and the other two main players also had high cards for the game. The team was forced to play badly and achieved a record of 20 wins and 62 losses, thus winning the No. 1 pick in the 1997 draft, and finally brought back Duncan.
Duncan showed everyone that he lived up to the title of top scorer from the very beginning. In the 1997-98 season, his combination with Robinson was called the "Two Towers". The cooperation between the two can bring excellent defense to the team in the interior. The contribution of the defensive end made Duncan the second team of the NBA's best defensive team that season. In addition, he was selected for the All-Star , and was selected for the All-Series team and was named Rookie of the Year with 82 starts and averaged 21.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.5 blocks per game. Spurs head coach Greg Popovich praised Duncan's spiritual attributes. Duncan always "takes everything seriously" and never "overly optimistic or too frustrated". The big brother Admiral was also impressed by Duncan: "I am proud of his attitude and hard work. He has put in a lot of extra effort. I hope he can become a better player."
Spurs advanced to the 1997-98 season with a record of fifth in the West and faced the Suns in the first round.Duncan performed poorly in the first half of G1, and Suns head coach Danny Angie adjusted his tactical arrangement, giving Duncan less defensive pressure. Duncan used this to score 32 points and 10 rebounds in G1. The Spurs finally defeated the Suns 3-1 to advance, but lost to the Utah Jazz in the second round.
998-99 season was shortened to 50 regular season games due to suspension. The Spurs started with a sluggish record of 6 wins and 8 losses, and head coach Popovich was criticized by the media. However, Duncan and Robinson supported their coaches with practical actions, then ended the season with 31 wins and 5 losses, entering the playoffs. Duncan averaged 21.7 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.5 blocks in the regular season, while being selected for the All-Squad and All-Defensive Team. In the 1999 NBA playoffs, the Spurs defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 3-1, swept Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers 4-0, entering the finals. In the finals series, many people from the Virgin Islands came from afar to watch the game, and Duncan did not disappoint them. In the first two games, the two towers scored 41 points, 26 rebounds and 9 blocks. After the defeat in G3, Duncan scored 28 points, 18 rebounds and 31 points and 9 rebounds respectively in G4 and G5, defeating , the New York Knicks , won the first championship in team history, and Duncan was also rated as FMVP. Popovich said to Knicks then coach Jeff Van Gundy after the game: "I have Tim, you don't, that's the difference between our two teams."
999-00 season, Duncan further consolidated his position. He averaged 23.2 points, 12.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 blocks per game, once again capping both the All-Squad and All-Defensive team. However, Duncan suffered a meniscus injury shortly before the end of the regular season, and the Spurs were eliminated 3-1 by the Suns in the first round of the playoffs.
000-01 season, Duncan averaged 22.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 blocks per game. doubled and was selected into the best team and the best defensive team. In the playoffs, the Spurs defeated the Timberwolves 3-1 and defeated the Dallas Mavericks 4-1, but was eliminated by the Lakers win in the Western Conference Finals, and Duncan was also criticized for not standing up when the Spurs needed him the most.
After two consecutive years of playoff losses, Duncan improved in the 2001-02 season. He averaged 25.5 points per game, including 764 shots and 560 free throws in the league leading) and rebounds (12.7 rebounds per game, 1042 rebounds per game, and led the league again), and averaged 3.7 assists per game, 2.5 blocks per game, both of which were career highs. With excellent statistics, coupled with another pair of best teams and best defensive teams selected, Duncan was named MVP, and is the only Spurs player to win the honor except teammate David Robinson. However, at this time, the admiral was no longer as brave as he was, and his body was finally eroded by time and could no longer maintain his previous performance level. In the 2002 playoffs, the Spurs were defeated by the Lakers led by O'Neal and Kobe with a total score of 1-4. Duncan scored 34 points and 25 rebounds in G5, but unfortunately he was unable to make the situation come true.
002-03 season, Duncan started with a 22+15+3 (blocks), and in the end he averaged 23.3 points, a career-high 12.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.9 blocks, and doubled to win the best team and the best defensive team, and he has been in the MVP for a long time. The Spurs won 60 wins and 22 losses in the regular season, advanced to the playoffs first in the Western Conference, and revenge the Lakers 4-2 in the Western Conference semi-finals. After eliminating Mavericks 4-2 in the Western Conference Finals, the Spurs defeated the New Jersey Nets 4-2 in the finals and won the second championship in team history. Duncan won a quasi-four double of 21+20+10+8 in the Finals G6 (and some analysts even thought that two hot pots were counted less), and was rated and rated as the NBA Finals MVP. After winning the championship, the Admiral retired and was named "Athlete of the Year" by Sports Illustrated in 2003.
Spurs leader
On July 16, 2003, the Spurs renewed their contract with Duncan, with a contract worth US$122 million for 7 years.Due to Robinson's retirement, Duncan served as the sole team leader since the 2003-04 season. The Spurs lineup this year includes Slovenia center Nestrovic, defensive vanguard Bruce Bowen, Argentina scoring guard Manu Ginobili and young French point guard Tony Parker, and substitutes include Robert Horry who once hit a key shot, versatile Tekoglu, and veterans Malik Ross and Kevin Willis. Although Duncan still needed some time to develop his leadership skills at the time, he still should not be underestimated by stats: averaged 22.3 points, 12.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 blocks per game, leading the team to the Western Conference semifinals. In the Western Conference semi-finals, the two teams tied 2-2 in the first four games, and the final kill and anti-win situation of Tianwangshan battle has now been recorded in history. For the Lakers defender " Laoyu " Fisher , who made the last goal, it is one of the hallmark moments of his career. In the end, the Spurs lost 2-4 to the Lakers.
004-05 season, Duncan led the Spurs to cheer up. Despite his slight decline in data (20.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.6 blocks per game), the Spurs still won 59 wins in the regular season, eliminating , Nuggets 4-1 in the first round of the playoffs, eliminating Seattle Supersonics 4-2 in the semi-finals, and defeating the Suns 4-1 in the Western Conference Finals. In the finals, facing the Pistons with strong defense, the Spurs first scored two games, and the Pistons began to double-team Duncan and won the next two games. After the G5G6 team tied again, Duncan played a key role in the tiebreak battle, scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds alone, leading the team to win the third championship trophy. At the same time, he also joined the ranks of seniors Jordan, Magic and O'Neal, becoming another player who won the FMVP in the league three times in history.
Head coach Popovich commented on Duncan in an interview: "(his game) is so perfect and so easily overlooked." "He is the backbone that leads us. He only focuses on the most basic hand, eye, body and footsteps, but he is incredible." Pistons center Ben Wallace also commented: "He carried the team on his shoulders and led his teammates behind him to win the championship. This is what a great player should do."
005-06 Duncan suffered from plantar fasciitis injuries, and his output dropped to a certain extent (18.6 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.2 per game assists and 2.0 blocks), while he also failed to be selected for the All-Squad for the first time in eight years. But he made a strong comeback against the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs, facing opponent's inside player Nowitzki, Duncan averaged 32.2 points per game, but the Spurs did not win the tiebreak and ended up in the Western Conference semi-finals.
However, in the following 2006-07 season, Duncan and the Spurs made a comeback again. Duncan averaged 20.0 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.4 blocks in the regular season, and was selected as the All-Star starter, which was his ninth All-Star game. In the 2007 playoffs, Duncan led the team to defeat the Nuggets 4-1 in the first round, defeated the Suns 4-2 in the second round, eliminated the Jazz 4-1 in the Western Conference Finals, and swept the Cavaliers led by rookie James 4-0 in the finals. The future is yours, now is mine, Duncan and the Spurs won the fourth championship, and the team's main point guard Tony Parker won the FMVP. Duncan once said that his performance in that round of the series did not meet expectations, but also said that this championship was "the best" among his first four championships.
playoff ups and downs
007-08 season, Duncan played 78 games, the Spurs won 56 wins and 26 losses, entering the playoffs with the third record in the West. After eliminating the Suns 4-1, the Spurs met the Hornets led by Chris Paul . The G1 Spurs lost 101-82 and Duncan scored one of the worst playoff games of his career, scoring only five points and three rebounds. After the Spurs lost two consecutive games, they equalized the score in G3 and G4, and Duncan scored a team-high 22+15+4 in G4.The Spurs finally won the seventh tie and advanced, but were eliminated 4-1 by their rivals Lakers in the Western Conference Finals and failed to win consecutive championships again.
008-09 season started, Duncan still performed well in data, but by the middle of the season, he was diagnosed with knee tendonitis. To make matters worse, this season's Ginobili was also troubled by injuries and played only 44 regular season games. In addition, the main rotation players have aging (Bowen, Michael Finley and other players are all in their 30s), although the Spurs entered the playoffs with a record of 54 wins and 28 losses, they were finally eliminated by the Mavericks, which is also the team's first round game since 2000.
In the summer of 2009, the Spurs repaired the roster and welcomed players such as Richard Jefferson , Dejuan Blair . In the 2009-10 season, the 34-year-old Duncan was able to maintain a 20+10 average per game and was once again selected as the All-Star starter. The Spurs once again experienced 50 wins in the regular season, advancing to the playoffs with seventh place in the West, eliminating the Mavericks 4-2 in the first round, but were swept out 4-0 by the Suns in the second round.
010-11 season began, Duncan began to usher in his milestones on various lists. On December 12, 2010, the Spurs played against the Trail Blazers , and Duncan became the 94th player in NBA history to play 1,000 games. In these 1,000 games, the Spurs' record was 707 wins and 293 losses, and in history, only Scotty Pippen (715 wins and 285 losses) was better than this result. Although Duncan averaged a career lows in scores and rebounds, the Spurs still entered the playoffs with the record of second in the league and first in the Western Conference, and then was 4-2 by the Grizzlies.
There were only 66 games in the 2011-12 season, but the Spurs still maintained a continuous record of 50 wins: a regular season record of 50 wins and 16 losses, and the West ranked first. This year, Duncan was 36 years old, and his reason for rest was the famous "DNP-OLD" (not playing - rest at the age of 36). In the first two rounds of the playoffs, the Spurs swept the Jazz and Clippers 4-0. In the G3 of the West Final, Duncan surpassed Jabbar and set the record with the most blocks in the playoffs. But in the end, the young Thunder defeated the Spurs 24-2, and the Spurs' playoff journey came to an end.
On July 11, 2012, Duncan renewed his contract with the Spurs. With the collective efforts of players such as Danny Green, , Thiago Split, , Gary Neal and Kawhi Leonard, who have gradually matured in the past two seasons, the Spurs have entered the playoffs again with a regular season record of 58 wins and 24 losses, and Duncan has also returned to the All-Star lineup and was selected as the first team of the All-Squad. At the end of the regular season, Duncan's total career score reached 23,785 points, breaking the record held by " Iceman " George Gerwen . The Spurs swept the Lakers in the first round, defeated , Golden State Warriors 4-2 in the second round, and swept the Grizzlies 4-0 in the Western Conference Finals. A day of black eight, a lifelong pursuit, you have been saying this for several years.
Spurs met the defending champion Miami Heat in the finals of that year. The Spurs, who entered G6 with a 3-2 score, would not know that the upcoming G6 between the two teams will be a game that has been famous in history, and it can even be said that many things have been rewritten directly or indirectly. Duncan beat the floor, the overtime that the Spurs lost, Ray Allen practiced the move many times - sitting on the floor first, then getting up and taking the ball and making a three-pointer, and Bosh more than a year later, Twitter :

I don’t need to say this season.
The last year of my career
On June 23, 2014, Duncan exercised the 2014-15 season's player option of $10.3 million. It was another record-setting season for Duncan, and at the end of the regular season, he reached 11th in history in his career, with a total score of 14th in the NBA's all-time scoring list. The Spurs ranked sixth in the Western Conference after the regular season, and lost to , Clippers in the first round in the playoffs. However, Duncan was later selected for the second team of the All-Defensive Team on May 20, 2015, which was also the seventh time he was selected in his career (second team).
On July 9, 2015, Duncan renewed his contract with the Spurs for two years. On November 2, 2015, Duncan scored 16 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists in a win over the New York Knicks, his 954th victory with the same team (Spurs), surpassing John Stockton’s 953 games with the Jazz. In addition, Duncan became the third player to win 1,000 regular season games in his career after Jabbar and Robert Parish in the game against the Jazz on April 5, 2016. The Spurs entered the playoffs with the second place in the West and lost to the Thunder in the second round.
On June 28, 2016, Duncan chose to execute a $5.6 million contract for the 2016-17 season. However, on July 11, after he played for the Spurs for 19 seasons, Duncan announced his retirement from the NBA, and after his retirement he served as an assistant coach for the Spurs. On December 18, 2016, the Spurs retired Duncan's No. 21 jersey after the game, and he also became the eighth player in team history to retire.
—I am the dividing line that I was touched but didn’t have two left—
If you take Baidu on “the No. 1 Power Forward in History”, you will find that Duncan ranks among almost all the lists. Using statistics to quantify Duncan’s career can only make him stand out among his peers and seniors who were originally outstanding enough, and once again show that our master of basic skills is the greatest power forward in history. If you don’t accept it, you can hold it up.

In his era, the Spurs won a single season of more than 60%, and the Spurs won a total of 71% in his career. At the same time, the best record of the four major sports leagues in the United States was
In addition to comparing data, Duncan's impact on basketball is also unique. His silent and restrained personality and unswerving mentality are incomparable to many players. For the Spurs, a team with diligent brick-moving tradition in the small-scale market, Duncan's arrival cannot be said to be a match made in heaven, and it is simply a love story.
The No. 21 jersey floating above the AT&T Center is not just a celebration of Duncan's achievements with the Spurs, it is the biggest announcement and the brightest spotlight this always low-key team can write, paying tribute to the quietest hero in the NBA. At the jersey retirement ceremony, the atmosphere was relaxed, like a family gathering. In less than 40 minutes, there was no big talk, no gongs and drums, we were just sitting there, on the scene, or in front of the screen, recalling the big man’s 19-year career, recalling every signature move, his sportsmanship, his leadership temperament, his team first, his coachable, or, just remembering the kind of honest and innocent smiles he was often photographed.
We just sit there.
0 years, or further away.
The Spurs are walking their own path step by step, generations of Spurs are connecting the past and the future, and to this day, millions of fans.
Duncan is a great player, and he is more than a great player.
He emphasized the contribution of his teammates rather than his own. Under his leadership, his teammates also followed the coach's guidance, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the entire team. Perhaps there is no group in the entire league that can talk about team culture better than the Spurs, and the most significant result is five championships and a long-lasting position in an industry that often seems to be changing at a very fast pace. Only Spurs fans know that this is the core of the Spurs.
And Tim Duncan, once, now, will forever be the most restrained and powerful spokesperson of this team.
Finally, I want to arrange an ending that I already like.
The idea comes from the NBA four-frame comics I once followed. When Duncan retired, their production team serialized a set of comic content. There are a few sentences below that I wrote based on my memory (the original content can't be found). For a little Tsaimi who hadn't watched the game much at that time, the content at that time could be said to be one of my earliest impressions of Duncan and the Spurs. In the previous article, I used a small easter egg at the time point in my writing. This article also let me complete this easter egg that I remember.
(Time is set when Duncan retires, which meets the original comic production time.Using the first person, you can understand it as Duncan's perspective in my heart)
water can flow quietly and penetrate rocks.
When I was a child, I could spend all day in the swimming pool in front of my home.
htmlThe sudden hurricane when I was 114 years old, so I picked up an orange ball.
I went to college and someone asked me to go into the NBA early, but I refused. I want to fulfill my promise to my mother.
with my degree certificate, I am moving to a place called San Antonio, although I don't know where it is yet.
The eldest brother in the team is very nice to me. His name is David and he smiles very kindly. I remember when I first took a group photo, the photographer asked us to relax and chat. He actually started to talk about relativity to me. Fortunately, I listened to the lecture carefully. It turned out that this team was so profound.
We both led the team to win a championship. Later, two young men came to the team, one from France and the other from Argentina. By the way, his long hair is so beautiful, but he doesn't know how to read the name at first sight.
I remember it was the playoffs in 2003. The coach used him as a surprise weapon, which was a great effect. Finally we were around the championship trophy, and I rubbed his head and said, "San Antonio will use his hair to exchange for the championship at the 20th, and all of them will be replaced."
The bad news was that he did not agree, and the good news was probably that the God of Basketball agreed. In the next ten years, he became bald and we all became stronger.
In the summer of 2015, we welcomed a strong new teammate.
Perfect team, comfortable state, everything is ready, only the sixth championship is missing.
My heart is equally strong, but my body has been eroded by time.
It seems that it is time to hand over the baton.
After all, I am almost out of this era.
failed to win the sixth championship. Is it not perfect enough?
If you want me, it is perfect, plus I am very lucky.
was accompanied by the big brother in the early stage of his career, and then he had the support of two other good brothers and all his teammates.
I like to touch my teammates' heads, as if everyone's hair is gradually getting less.
, that's the person on the left. He always said that I was bald and told the truth. Didn't he say that he wanted to exchange all his hair for the championship more than ten years ago?
I also have the best team, the best fans, the best relatives and friends.
Of course, the most important thing is that I met my mentor and taught me all the time for nineteen years.
1997 When I first stepped on the NBA arena, I would never have thought that I would achieve such a thing today. But these years have passed, and fortunately, as the old man said, I am now and I am the first. I forgot how many red wine bottles he had changed, and he probably didn't count how many meals I had eaten in the cafeteria. I have changed a lot, and he has changed a lot, but in a certain part of my heart, I am still the young rookie of that year. He is knocking on the door and bringing me a carrot cake.
I don’t think life will be almost done after retirement. I repaired cars and had a free meal. David asked me to practice kickboxing together. I really had nothing to do. I called Bobo and asked him which child has more hair this year. As for the court, there is no good bye anymore. After an offseason, it is a new season, and every autumn is a new chapter. There may be old people leaving and new people coming, but many things will not change, such as the championship flag hanging on the roof of the arena and the retired jersey numbers, the motto about knocking stones on the walls of the locker room, the ribbons of opponents celebrating victory, the champagne we hold trophy, the go spurs go that is about to overturn the roof, the friendship boat that will never stop between us old guys.
These are the things this sport gives me.
Good, better, best.
Never let it rest.
Until your good is better,
And your better is the best.
And your better is the best.
