At 15:00 on March 8, 1976, a meteorite flew over the Jilin area from east to west. The violent friction with the air caused the meteorite to start burning, becoming a big fireball, dragging its long tail and emitting a strong and dazzling brilliance. When an explosion occurred while flying over Jinzhu Town, Longtan District, Jilin City, the explosion lasted for several minutes. Among them, three meteorites with more than 100 kilograms fell in Santaizi Village, Jiuzhan Street, Changyi District, Jilin City (Jilin No. 3 meteorite, weighing 123.5 kilograms), Dahuangdi Village, Gudianzi Town (Jilin No. 2 meteorite, weighing 400 kilograms). The largest one (Jilin No. 1 meteorite) fell in Jingang Village, Huapichang Town (formerly Caishan Village, Huapichang Town, Yongji County) at 15:2:36. When this meteorite weighing 1770 kilogram landed, penetrated a 1.7-meter-thick frozen soil layer, fell 6.5 meters deep underground, with a diameter of more than 2 meters, shaking up more than 50 meters of soil waves (mushroom clouds). The splashed soil blocks flew a hundred meters away, causing vibrations equivalent to magnitude 1.7 earthquakes.

Jilin rime.Every winter, a large amount of fog will condense on various branches on both sides of the Songhua River in Jilin City and condense when it is cold, forming rime, commonly known as tree hanging . At this time, buildings, trees and pedestrians appeared in the fog, and the lights became confusing, as if they were in a fairyland of clouds; "Looking at the morning hang" means that after a night of thick fog, the banks of the river embankment in the early morning became silvery white, presenting a fantastic and wonderful world of silver; "Looking at the fallen flowers near noon" refers to the scene when the rime fell off. Generally, after 9 a.m., the rime condensed on the branches begins to fall off in the sun and breeze, from less to more, and the falling silver pieces fly in the breeze. The wonder of Jilin rime is said to be related to the upstream Fengman Hydropower Station . The temperature of the river water rises after passing through the hydropower station generator set, causing the river surface of dozens of kilometers downstream to be freezed in winter. This has two necessary and contradictory natural conditions for forming rime: sufficient low temperature and sufficient water vapor.
