On March 1, Hou Youyi held a press conference to announce his candidacy, emphasizing that he was dedicated to Taiwan by joining the police and running for mayor for New Taipei City , all of which are to achieve the people's wish of "living and working in peace and contentment".
Hou Youyi was born in Chiayi and claimed to be a southern boy who grew up in a vegetable market. Since he entered the police academy at the age of 19, he has worked hard all the way, from the police chief, the "Police Commissioner" to the deputy mayor of New Taipei City. In his speech at the mayor, Hou Youyi emphasized that he had devoted himself to the police public office and loved Taiwan the most for 38 years. When it comes to being passionate, Hou Youyi's Minnan dialect ends with a very intimate feeling, which is very contrasted with the established impression of "gentle, kind, respectful, frugal, and kind" of traditional blue camp politicians, and can be called a political star with a strong Taiwanese flavor. He also has a famous saying for the election: political opposition and blue-green conflict make the next generation unable to see hope. He wants to do the right thing, regardless of party or color, and will allow New Taipei City to grow on the basis of existing municipal construction.

Zhou Xiwei, the former Taipei County Mayor who had long announced his election as mayor of New Taipei , said that the blue one is blue, and he will never tolerate people and things that happen to "not blue or green", "not clear", and "unfair and unjust".
Zhou Xiwei said that eight years ago, in order to unite the Kuomintang, he could give in to everything, but the Kuomintang cannot now be mixed with it, and cannot take the route of wandering in the middle and wanting to please. In the past, Hou Youyi often made friends from all over the world regardless of blue or green due to work, especially when he was promoted to the position of "Police Director" during Chen Shui-bian's tenure. We all know that the Kuomintang unity does not necessarily win, but division will inevitably lose. The Kuomintang has experienced several failures caused by division in New Taipei.
In 1989, National Taiwan University professor Li Xikun once ran for Taipei County Mayor on behalf of the Kuomintang, but in the end he lost to You Qing, the Democratic Progressive Party by a gap of more than 4,000 votes. At that time, it was the pan-blue forces opposed to Lee Teng-hui who were behind the scenes, which led to the Kuomintang's defeat.
In 1993, You Qing fought for re-election, but before the election, the new party ran away and launched his own electoral Li Shengfeng, dividing away the Kuomintang's votes. The huge split in the blue sky led to You Qing's narrow victory.
In 1997, the Kuomintang once again sent Xie Shenshan, who was appointed by Lee Teng-hui, to participate in the election. In the end, because Lin Zhijia stole 150,000 votes, Xie Shenshan lost to Su Zhenchang of the Democratic Progressive Party by a gap of 30,000 votes, and the Kuomintang was defeated again due to division.
In 2005, with the strong support of Ma Ying-jeou, Zhou Xiwei defeated the DPP Luo Wenjia with 980,000 votes, finally ending the DPP's rule here for 16 consecutive years.
In 2010, the Kuomintang decided to run for the mayor of New Taipei with Zhu Lilun . Zhou Xiwei retired with tears in his eyes to promote the unity of the Kuomintang. Zhu Lilun finally defeated the DPP candidate Tsai Ing-wen.
Historical experience repeatedly told the Kuomintang that it has no capital for division. The DPP is eyeing it, just waiting for the Kuomintang to launch its own strong stick after it splits. Similarly, if the Kuomintang can maintain unity, it may be difficult for the Democratic Progressive Party to send out the king to win.
However, when facing the strong player Zhu Lilun, Zhou Xiwei could retreat naked with tears. Now when he faced the strong player Hou Youyi again, Zhou Xiwei sounded the clarion call of "I won't give in at all." And behind this, there can be said to be a deeper reason.
According to the analysis of a person familiar with the Kuomintang, Hou Youyi is Zhu Lilun's member, and Zhou Xiwei was encouraged by Wu Dunyi and joined the election. In addition, the outside world has been paying attention to the competitive relationship between Wu Dunyi and Zhu Lilun. The person pointed out that the Kuomintang Central Party Committee will not intervene in the primary election competition between Hou Youyi and Zhou Xiwei, and Wu Dunyi will be cautious. Because Wu Dunyi and Zhu Lilun have the determination to win the battle to defend the mayor of New Taipei at the end of the year. Once New Taipei City is lost, the "Six Capitals" are likely to collapse all over; and, if they lose again in the 2018 election battle, "Wu Dunyi and Zhu Lilun will not have 2020."
Of course, this is all the truth that everyone understands, but in the face of power, not everyone can be sober, otherwise the DPP would not have taken root in this originally blue land for 16 years because of the repeated divisions of the Kuomintang. If Hou Youyi and Zhou Xiwei can maintain the dispute between gentlemen, the Kuomintang still has hope in New Taipei.
