In early February 1950, 20-year-old Xu Yonghui had just become a reporter from Zhejiang Daily and went to Jiaxing for an interview. One morning, when he passed by Ercun Village, Qixing Township, he suddenly heard a silly voice: "The sky in the liberated area is bright, and the people in the liberated area like it very much..."
Xu Yonghui looked in the voice and found that they were two ragged children, jumping and singing in the drying field. The children's cheerful singing made Xu Yonghui very excited, and he immediately wanted to take a photo of the children. But as soon as the camera cover was opened, the children were so scared that they ran home crying.
Xu Yonghui chased after him two steps, and a man walked out of the broken room not far away, holding a baby in his arms. After the man learned the reason, he asked Xu Yonghui to take a family photo of their family of five. During the conversation, Xu Yonghui learned that the male owner of this family was Ye Gentu, who was a hired farmer; the female owner was Gao Aer. The three children are the eldest daughter Ye Guifeng, 7 years old, the eldest son Ye Xingfu, 5 years old, and the second son Ye Xingyou, 1 year old.
In that family photo with heavy shadows, Ye Gentu's family was in rags. Except for Ye Gentu's smile, his wife and children looked sad and afraid. Especially Gao A-er, like a terminally ill person, his expression was very terrible.
Xu Yonghui was deeply impressed by the scene back then. He clearly remembered that Gao A-er walked out with the wall, his body was very weak and he couldn't stand steadily. The whole family wore clothes made up of rags and old trousers. The children's cotton coats were torn, and white cotton wool was exposed in many places. The eldest son Ye Xingfu had a rope tied to his chest to tighten the holes in his clothes and prevent the old cotton wool from falling off.

For many years of searching for
Xu Yonghui took that "family photo" in the suburbs of Jiaxing, and he was always thinking about Ye Gentu's family. In the autumn of 1954, Xu Yonghui returned to Qixing Township, Jiaxing, but found that Ye Gentu had moved. The local farmer told him that the family had moved out for two years and was missing.
Xu Yonghui did not give up and insisted on searching. He searched four times in three years, but there was still no news. It was not until 1957 that when Xu Yonghui searched for the fifth time, he got clues from an old lady in the local area. Ye Gentu fled to Jiaxing since childhood. After liberation, agriculture had a bumper harvest for three consecutive years. After saving some money, he took his family back to his original hometown, Huangyan Yangpengling. Xu Yonghui immediately rushed to Huangyan and searched through many grassroots cadres, but there was no news.
In September 1959, Xu Yonghui came to Huangyan again. Finally, on the bus from Linhai to Huangyan, the ticket seller told him: "There is a pergola ridge outside the west gate of Huangyan. The difference between 'sheep' and 'liang' is just one word. Go and ask." After many twists and turns, Xu Yonghui finally found Ye Gentu.

The second year, Xu Yonghui went to visit Xingfu. The leaders and comrades praised Xingfu, abide by discipline and endure hardships, take the lead in the training field, and won the title of special gunner; he rushed to do all dirty and heavy work and voluntary work, and was an activist in learning from Lei Feng.
